Flyers vs. Capitals Pick
Are the Washington Capitals going to post the victory on their home ice tonight when they battle the Philadelphia Flyers at 8PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at YouWager, the Capitals are a -145 favorite to win on the moneyline. The Flyers are a +125 underdog, while the total is set at 5.5 goals. As of Wednesday afternoon, 60 percent of public bets have come in on Washington.
Philadelphia enters with a 24-17-5-3 record after a 5-1 home loss last Thursday night against the Lightning. Washington is 29-15-4-1 following a 4-2 win Thursday at the Panthers. The Flyers are 2-0 in the two meetings this season and the over-under is 1-1. The six meetings since the start of last season are split 3-3, while the under has gone 2-1-3.
The lone goal by Philadelphia in the loss to Tampa Bay was scored by Travis Konecny on assists from Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek. The score brought the Flyers within 3-1 with 6:52 left in the third period, but the Lightning added two insurance goals to put it away. Michal Neuvirth surrendered five goals on 22 shots to take the loss.
Alexander Ovechkin paced the Capitals with a goal and an assist in the victory at Florida. Nicklas Backstrom, John Carlson and Brett Connolly added one goal apiece. Evgeny Kuznetsov dished out two assists. Braden Holtby recorded 32 saves on 34 shots to pick up the win. Washington took a 3-2 lead with 2:22 left in the second period on the Carlson goal and added an insurance tall in the third by Connolly.
The Flyers are 2-5 in their last seven meetings in Washington. The under is 4-0-3 in the last seven meetings in Washington and 5-1-3 in the last nine meetings overall.
It has been a six-day layoff for both teams as they last played before the All-Star Break, so players will be fresh. Because of that, I have to side with Washington here. The Capitals want some revenge for the last two meetings this season and they are the better team here. Don’t overthink it.
