Red Wings vs. Flyers Pick
Will tonight’s game between the Detroit Red Wings and the host Philadelphia Flyers be a low-scoring affair? The puck drops at 8PM ET.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Flyers are listed as a -175 favorite on the moneyline. The Red Wings are a +155 underdog, while the over-under sits at 5.5 goals.
Detroit enters with a 13-13-6-1 record after a 6-3 victory Tuesday night at the Islanders. Philadelphia is 14-12-5-2 following a 4-1 home loss Monday versus the Kings. The Flyers won two of three meetings last season, with two being decided in overtime and the other in a shootout. The under went 2-1.
The Red Wings received one goal apiece from Trevor Daley, Martin Frk, Luke Glendening, Mike Green, Anthony Mantha and Gustav Nyquist in the win at New York. Dylan Larkin and Henrik Zetterberg each dished out three assists. Petr Mrazek made 34 saves on 37 shots. Detroit broke a 3-3 tie in the third period on the goal by Daley with 9:57 remaining and then added two insurance goals.
Jakub Voracek scored the lone goal for Philadelphia in the loss to Los Angeles. Claude Giroux and Shayne Gostisbehere assisted on the tally. Brian Elliott allowed four goals on 25 shots to take the loss. Voracek cut the deficit to 2-1 late in the first period and it remained that way into the third period before the Kings added two more goals to their lead.
The home team is 19-5 in the last 24 meetings. The over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Philadelphia.
Detroit is going to be a more tired unit playing a back-to-back with some travel. Jimmy Howard being in goal will give them a bit of a boost, which also helps disguise one of the NHL’s poorest defensive units. After erupting for six goals last night, there is a good chance the Red Wings will struggle to find the back of the net tonight. It’s an inconsistent and mediocre team. If you want to accept the juice, by all means bet on the Flyers. But my pick here is the under.
