Flames vs. Golden Knights Pick
Are the Calgary Flames and host Las Vegas Golden Knights going to keep the score under the projected total tonight when they do battle at 10:30PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at YouWager, the Golden Knights are a -160 favorite to win on the moneyline. The Flames are a +140 underdog, while the total is set at 6 goals. Las Vegas opened as a -175 favorite before the line was bet down, while the total has increased from 5.5.
As of Wednesday afternoon, 72 percent of public bets are siding with the Golden Knights. Online wager info also shows that 57 percent of bets are coming in on the over.
In the first-ever meeting between the two franchises on Jan. 30, Las Vegas came away with a 4-2 victory on the Flames’ home ice. While the dream season of the expansion Golden Knights has seen solid play on the road this season at 17-11-1-1, they are far more dominant at home where they are 22-5-1-1. One of those home losses came in their last game, however, as they were shut out 2-0 by the Ducks. As for Calgary, it is 17-7-1-4 on the road this season which is much better than on their home ice (13-14-3-1).
The under has been the better play in Flames contests this season as it is 31-28, while the over is 33-24 in Las Vegas games. But three of the last five Golden Knights games have gone under, so the scoring pace could be on a downtick.
Calgary has lost its last two games, both at home, including a 2-1 overtime defeat versus the Bruins. The Flames are 5-5 over their last 10 games, while the over is 6-4. Las Vegas is 6-4 over its last 10 and had a three-game win streak snapped by Anaheim. The over has gone 6-4.
I like the under here for a couple reasons. Las Vegas has been trending that way lately as it shores up its defense, but also because Calgary hasn’t been scoring a lot of goals as of late with more than three in only one of its last eight games. I’m tempted to bet on Calgary here with Las Vegas not playing its greatest hockey as of late and the Flames being so good on the road this season, but alas I’ll go with the more hittable bet in the under. I picked Anaheim to beat Las Vegas the other day (not patting myself on the back or anything), so going to the well once again might be too much to ask.
