Panthers Season Odds
Can the Florida Panthers jump out to a strong start at maintain throughout an entire season this year? Oddsmakers have established the Panthers odds to win the 2009 Stanley Cup at 50/1.
The first step in this team getting back on the right track after struggling to a 38-35-9 record last season was taken by former head coach Jacques Martin, who relinquished his duties and will now only serve as the club’s general manager.
Martin replaced himself with new head coach Peter DeBoer, who doesn’t offer a ton of experience, but he will benefit from the club’s signging of defensemen Bryan McCabe, Keith Ballard and Nick Boynton. Those additions will hopefully make things a lot easier on goalie Tomas Vokoun, who finished with a .919 save percentage last season.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have listed the Panthers’ odds to win the 2009 Stanley Cup at 50/1. Bodog has Florida at 50/1, while Sportsbook.com gives the Panthers a 40/1 shot.
There’s no getting around it – the Panthers are longshots to win the Stanley Cup this year. But they do have an improved team and an outstanding goaltender in Vokoun. The key will be whether or not DeBoer can have an impact and if so, how much of an impact he’ll have. He’s got a veteran roster, which will help, but his inexperience is rather glaring. Still, this team might have the ability to surprise and less talented teams have come together and made a run before so don’t count Florida out to make a run in 2008-09.
