Penguins Season Odds
The defending Eastern Conference Champions reside in Pittsburgh and the Penguins are ready to make another run. Oddsmakers have established the Pens’ odds to win the 2009 Stanley Cup at 6/1.
The Penguins couldn’t keep from losing a couple of key players bolting for free agency this past offseason, as Marian Hossa and Ryan Malone both departed from the club. But GM Ray Shero was able to re-sign goalie Marc-Andre Fleury and ink center Evgeni Malkin to a five year deal.
With the signing of Malkin, Pittsburgh has added a ton of offensive firepower to a team that already has one of the best players in the game with Sidney Crosby, who scored 72 points in 53 games last year. In re-signing Fleury, they also have locked up their goalkeeper for years to come, which is a positive sign for a club that made huge strides as an organization last year.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have listed the Penguins odds to win the 2009 Stanley Cup at 5/1. Bodog has Pittsburgh at 6/1, while Sportsbook.com gives the Pens an 8/1 shot.
Oddsmakers have also listed Pittsburgh as a 2/1 favorite to win the Eastern Conference this season.
The Penguins have the makings of a fantastic squad and should be the favorites to emerge out of the Atlantic Division this season. They must improve on their league-worst faceoff numbers if they want to be playing for the Cup once again, however. And not since the 1983-84 Edmonton Oilers has a club lost the Finals and won the Cup the next year. But if any team could break that trend, the immensely talented 2008-09 Pittsburgh Penguins can.
