Evgeni Malkin continues to struggle through six games of the NHL season. Malkin played only 14:23 Sunday and looked quite ordinary as he was unable to get a shot on net. “When he scores a goal or two, his confidence goes to another level and he tends to take off,” coach Mike Sullivan said via video conference. “When he doesn’t, he tends to be hard on himself because he cares so much and he wants to help the Penguins win. And he knows that’s how he can help us win. My conversations with (Malkin) to this point is just to encourage him, just to make sure he’s trying to play the game the right way and play on both sides of the puck. When he has the opportunity to shoot the puck, shoot the puck and allow his instincts to take over.” Malkin has only a goal and an assist this season but should still be in your fantasy lineup.

Brad Marchand picked up a pair of goals with an assist in Saturday’s 6-1 rout of the Philadelphia Flyers. Marchand helped the B’s pull away, opening the third period with a pair of goals to expand his team’s lead from 3-1 after 40 minutes to an insurmountable 5-1 advantage. he also assisted on Patrice Bergeron’s power-play marker at 13:33 of the third to make it 6-1. Marchand has at least one point in four of his five outings, totaling three goals and seven points with a plus-1 rating through five games. Two of his goals, and four of his points, have come on the man advantage. Next up is a double dip with the Penguins starting Tuesday in Beantown.
