Penguins fall at Blue Jackets
Pittsburgh lost 5-2 Friday night at Columbus to drop to 14-8-4 on the season. Jake Guentzel tied it up at 1-1 with 2:03 left in the first period on a goal assisted by Oliver Bjorkstrand. The Blues took control in the second period and led 4-1 through 40 minutes. Kris Letang pulled the Penguins within 4-2 with 14:40 left in the third period off assists from Guentzel and Evgeni Malkin. St. Louis put it away with a goal in the final minute. Tristan Jarry suffered the loss as he surrendered four goals on 29 shots.
Blues win at Stars
St. Louis picked up a 3-1 victory Friday night at Dallas to improve to 16-5-6 on the season. Colton Parayko opened the scoring with 4:19 remaining in the first period to put the Blues on top as assists went to Ryan O’Reilly and David Perron. The score stayed at 1-1 until the Stars tied it up with 3:11 left in the third period. O’Reilly gave St. Louis the lead again 18 seconds later on assists from Ivan Barbashev and Jay Bouwmeester. Barbashev scored an empty-net goal with three seconds to go on assists by Perron and Brayden Schenn. Jake Allen recorded 31 saves on 32 shots in the winning effort.
NHL Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Penguins are 6-0 in their last six games versus the Central Division. Pittsburgh is 5-2 in its last seven Saturday games.
St. Louis
The Blues are 8-2 in their last 10 games following a win. St. Louis is 4-1 in its last five games versus the Eastern Conference.
Prediction:
St. Louis is tough at home and will have its No. 1 goalie in Jordan Binnington in net tonight. While Pittsburgh will also be with its top goalie in Matt Murray, the absence of Sidney Crosby has been difficult to absorb. I think the Blues lock down another win on their home ice as they round into the form that carried them to the Stanley Cup title last summer.
