Igor Shesterkin turned aside 24 of 26 shots in a 3-1 loss to the Lightning on Thursday. It was Shesterkin’s third straight loss, but he hasn’t been the Rangers’ problem. He made 49 saves in Game 3 and stopped 27 of 30 shots in Game 4. The Rangers bigger issue has been an inability to solve goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy as of late. Either way, the Rangers are now down 3-2 in the Eastern Conference Final. The series will now go to Tampa Bay on where the Rangers will have to win Saturday night in order to extend their season.

Coach Jon Cooper didn’t provide an update on the status of Brayden Point, but he intends to make one on Saturday ahead of Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final. “Let’s wait until tomorrow,” said Cooper on Friday. “Today is a travel day.” Point has missed the past nine games due to a lower-body injury, but he has been making progress and he appears to be nearing a potential return to the lineup.
