Binnington plays big role for Blues

Rookie goaltender Jordan Binnington was called up from the minors in December and helped turn St. Louis’ season around. He manned the net in 32 games and finished the regular season with a 24-5-1 record plus a sparkling 1.89 goals-against average plus a .927 save percentage. He outplayed fellow goalie Jake Allen (19-17-8, 2.83 GAA, .905 save pct.). The Blues finished the regular season at 45-28-9 with 99 points. Center Ryan O’Reilly leads the St. Louis offense with 28 goals and 49 assists, while Vladimir Tarasenko registered 33 goals and 35 assists over 76 games. Center Brayden Schenn added 17 goals and 37 assists over 72 games.

Jets compile another strong regular season

Winnipeg advanced to the Western Conference Finals last season before falling to Las Vegas in five games. The Jets went 47-30-5 this season to rack up 99 points and the fourth seed in the playoffs. Winnipeg is led in part by right winger Blake Wheeler as he contributed 20 goals and 71 assists during the regular season. Center Mark Scheifele registered 38 goals and 46 assists, while left winger Kyle Connor had 34 goals and 32 assists. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was effective in net with a 34-23-3 record, 2.90 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage. Winnipeg did lose six of its last nine games to complete the regular season.

NHL Betting Trends

St. Louis

The road team is 5-1 in the last six meetings. St. Louis is 2-5 in its last seven road games.

Winnipeg

The Jets are 4-1 in their last five conference quarterfinals games. Winnipeg is 68-29 in its last 97 home games.

Prediction:

I’m actually surprised this moneyline isn’t a little wider considering how good the Jets have been at home the last couple of seasons. While St. Louis has been stellar on the back end in turning its season around, the Jets should be able to find enough offense to back a goalie in Hellebuyck who stepped up in big moments during last season’s postseason run.
