Capitals stumble late at Preds
Washington gave up four goals in the third period Thursday night in a 6-5 loss at Nashville. Lars Eller opened the scoring with 10:43 left in the first period to give the Capitals a 1-0 lead off assists from Garnet Hathaway and John Carlson. The Predators tied it up a minute-plus later and it remained 1-1 through 20 minutes. Washngton took the lead back with 15:14 to go in the second period on an Alex Ovechkin power play goal with assists going to Carlson and Evgeny Kuznetsov. After Nashville tied it up a few minutes later, Tom Wilson put the Caps back ahead on a shorthanded goal at the 7:32 mark of the second off an assist by Chandler Stephenson. The Predators tied it up with a pair of goals in the third period, but Washington took the lead again at the midway point of the period via a T.J. Oshie goal off an assist from Dmitry Orlov. After Nashville tied it up, the hosts then proceeded to score what would be the game-winning goal with 4:40 left on the clock. Braden Holtby surrendered six goals on 38 shots in the losing effort.
Stars downed in shootout
Dallas lost 3-2 at home Thursday night in a shootout versus Calgary. The game remained scoreless until the 3:21 mark of the second period on a Joel L’Esperance goal with assists going to Joel Hanley and Radek Faksa. The Stars pushed it to 2-0 nine seconds into the third period via a Jamie Benn power play goal on assists from Roope Hintz and Joel Klingberg. The Flames tied it up by the 14:28 mark and then won the shootout 2-1 with the only Dallas tally coming from Tyler Seguin. Ben Bishop gave up two goals on 29 shots in the defeat.
NHL Betting Trends
Washington
The Capitals are 48-22 in their last 70 Saturday games. Washington is 2-5 in its last seven road games.
Dallas
The Stars are 1-4 in their last five games playing on one day of rest. Dallas is 1-4 in its last five home games.
Prediction:
The Capitals are continuing their road trip tonight and could be a little fatigued, whereas Dallas is remaining at home. The Stars have the edge in goaltending and have generally played well on the back end, but have had issues generating offense. I’m going to say Dallas busts out here and puts together a complete performance on their home ice after what was a pretty decent showing a couple nights ago against a good Calgary squad.
