Caps down Rangers in shootout

Washington won by a count of 3-2 Sunday in a shootout victory at New York. The Capitals (38-21-7) also won the shootout 3-2 with Alex Ovechkin scoring the winner in the fourth round. T.J. Oshie and Nicklas Backstrom also found the back of the net in the shootout. After the Rangers scored in the first minute of the game, Carl Hagelin evened it at 1-1 2:03 in on assists from Lars Eller and Brooks Orpik. Andre Burakovsky gave the Caps a 2-1 advantage midway through the first on a goal assisted by Nic Dowd and Travis Boyd. New York tied the score at 2-2 with 5:40 remaining in the second period and it continued that way the rest of regulation. Braden Holtby surrendered two goals on 24 shots in the winning effort.

Philadelphia opened up a four-goal lead Sunday at New York and secured a 4-1 victory to improve to 32-26-8 on the season. Travis Konecny put the Flyers on the board with 11:39 left in the first period with assists going to Radko Gudas and Robert Hagg. Travis Sanheim made it 2-0 later in the first off an assist from Claude Giroux. In the second period, a goal from Scott Laughton assisted by Michael Raffl pushed the Philly lead to three goals. NHL Betting Trends

Washington

The Capitals are 4-1 in their last five games as a favorite. Washington is 4-1 in its last five road games.

Philadelphia

The Flyers are 4-1 in their last five versus the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia is 16-5 in its last 21 games overall.

Prediction:

Washington is on a roll, but Philadelphia has also played solid hockey as of late and has the home ice advantage. Look for a strong showing from the hosts to take down the reigning Stanley Cup champions, who have shown vulnerability and a lack of focus at times this season. Every bet carries some risk, but I think there is good value on the Flyers here.
