Jets rally for win
Winnipeg rallied from a 4-0 deficit Friday night at New Jersey to notch a 5-4 shootout victory. Dmitry Kulikov put the Jets on the board with 11 seconds remaining in the second period to make it 4-1 with assists going to Nikolaj Ehlers and Mark Scheifele. Jack Roslovic cut the deficit to two early in the third period with assists from Neal Pionk and Mathieu Perreault. Perreault made it a 4-3 game at the 12:43 mark on assists by Andrew Copp and Patrik Laine. Pionk tied it up with 7:25 left in the third with assists courtesy of Scheifele and Ville Heinola. The Jets won the shootout 2-1 on tallies from Kyle Connor and Blake Wheeler. Laurent Brossoit picked up the win in net as he accounted for 35 saves on 39 shots.
Islanders edged by Caps
New York lost its season opener at home Friday night as it fell 2-1 against Washington. After the Capitals got on the board first midway through the first period, the Islanders tied it up a couple minutes later on a Devon Toews goals on assists from Anthony Beauvillier and Leo Komarov. Washington proceeded to score the game-winning goal with 2:17 left in the second period and the score remained 2-1 the rest of the contest. Semyon Varlamov took the loss as he surrendered two goals on 28 shots.
NHL Betting Trends
Winnipeg
The Jets are 48-12 in their last 60 Sunday games. Winnipeg is 2-6 in its last eight games versus the Eastern Conference.
New York
The Isanders are 4-0 in their last four games versus the Western Conference. New York is 0-5 in its last five games overall.
Prediction:
Winnipeg is coming off a thrilling win on the road and this seems like a letdown spot against a good, defensive-minded New York squad wanting to post its first win of the season. The Islanders have enough offense to get it done and the Jets have struggled on the back end through two games. I like the safer play here on the Islanders.
