TORONTO (AP) -Coyotes defenseman Ed Jovanovski was suspended one game by the NHL on Friday for a blow to the head of Wild forward Marian Gaborik during a 3-1 loss in Minnesota.
Jovanovski was given a minor penalty for roughing at 19:43 of the third period Wednesday night. Gaborik had scored on a breakaway in the second period to make it 2-0.
Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Jovanovski will forfeit $34,759.36 to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund. He will miss Friday night’s game at Chicago and be eligible to return Dec. 1 at Detroit.
Jovanovski has two goals and 13 assists this season.
