DALLAS (AP) -Dallas defenseman Sergei Zubov was placed on injured reserve Thursday because of a groin injury and goalie Marty Turco will miss the game against Minnesota with a sore neck.
The Stars recalled goaltender Tobias Stephan from their minor-league Iowa Stars club.
The 37-year-old Zubov, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, has missed seven games. Mike Smith will start at Minnesota on Thursday night. Stephan will be Smith’s backup against the Wild.
Turco is 23-11 with a 2.33 goals-against average and .910 save percentage.
The 24-year-old Stephan made his NHL debut Oct. 13 at Chicago and blocked 38 of 40 shots in a 2-1 overtime loss. In 39 AHL games, he went 17-16-2 with a 2.60 goals-against average, a .907 save percentage and two shutouts.
The Stars lead the Pacific Division and are second to Detroit in the Western Conference despite being without at least one key player most of the season.
Winger Jere Lehtinen missed 33 games after an abdominal injury led to sports hernia surgery. He has a goal and an assist in three games since coming back.
The Stars won their first three games after Lehtinen was hurt, and they’ve won four in a row without Zubov, who has 31 assists, easily the most for a Dallas defenseman.
Dallas also had a season-high, four-game losing streak in Lehtinen’s absence.
