MOVING ON
Vancouver advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2003 with a Game 7 win over Dallas on Monday night. It was the fourth consecutive playoff series that has gone seven games for the Canucks. Vancouver now travels to Anaheim to face the Ducks in the Western Conference semifinal.
OLD FAITHFUL
Trevor Linden’s goal in the third period of Vancouver’s 4-1 win over Dallas was the 34th playoff score of his career, tying Pavel Bure’s franchise record. Monday night’s game was Linden’s ninth career Game 7 for Vancouver.
SNAPPED
Henrik Sedin’s first period goal in Vancouver’s 4-1 Game 7 win on Monday night was the Canucks’ first against Dallas goalie Marty Turco in 167 minutes and four seconds. Sedin’s goal was Vancouver’s first on the power play since the first game of the series. The Canucks had failed to convert 26 straight chances and were just 1-for-31 in the series before Sedin finally scored.
BROKEN WINGS
Detroit forward Tomas Holmstrom is day-to-day with an eye injury after Calgary’s Craig Conroy hit him with his stick in the first overtime of Sunday’s 2-1 series-clinching victory over the Flames. Conroy received a double-minor penalty for high-sticking when he lifted his stick and hit Holmstrom’s eye. Red Wings defenseman Brett Lebda also is day-to-day with a concussion and ankle injury.
SPEAKING
“It’s a mystery to me how the standard can change. It was a different refereed game than the other six. Baffling. Some of the calls . . . it’s Game 7. Let’s let the players decide it.” – Dallas coach Dave Tippett after the Stars’ 4-1 Game 7 loss to Vancouver on Monday night. Dallas faced 10 power plays to the Canucks’ five.
