San Jose won three of its four games against Detroit this season, scoring 13 power-play goals in the process. That includes a franchise-record six during a 9-4 win over the Red Wings on Jan. 4. The teams begin their Western Conference semifinal series on Thursday night in Detroit.

Atlanta captain Scott Mellanby retired Tuesday, less than a week after the Thrashers were swept in their first trip to the NHL playoffs. In 21 NHL seasons, Mellanby had 364 goals, 476 assists and 2,479 penalty minutes with five different clubs. He reached the Stanley Cup finals with Philadelphia in 1987 and Florida in 1996 but never won the ultimate prize.
