Detroit set a team record by scoring two goals 5 seconds apart during the second period of Saturday night’s 3-2 shootout loss at Columbus. Tomas Holmstrom and Pavel Datsyuk bettered the previous mark of 7 seconds, done in both 1936 and 1987. It was also the quickest two goals allowed in the Blue Jackets’ short history. Columbus gave up goals 8 seconds apart in 2006. … Phoenix scored two of its four first-period goals in an 18-second span during a 5-1 win over Toronto.

Ilya Bryzgalov has won all four of his starts with Phoenix after making 23 saves in a 5-1 win over Toronto on Saturday night. Bryzgalov, claimed off waivers from Anaheim on Nov. 17, has allowed only six goals in the Coyotes’ four-game winning streak, their longest since a seven-game run last Dec. 26-Jan. 9. … Washington has won both games under interim coach Bruce Boudreau with a 5-2 victory over Carolina.

Pittsburgh’s Evegni Malkin had his 15-game scoring streak snapped in Saturday night’s 5-0 win over Atlanta. Malkin had seven goals and 15 assists during the run, which was the longest in NHL history by a Russian player, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. … Los Angeles’ halted a five-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over Anaheim.
DOUBLE DENIAL
Colorado failed to win its 500th regular-season game since moving to Denver in 1995 and coach Joel Quenneville remains one win shy of 100 with the Avalanche after a 5-2 loss to Calgary on Saturday night. Colorado has also dropped five of its last six overall.
SWEEPS
Buffalo won both ends of its home-and-home series with Montreal after Saturday night’s 3-0 victory. The Sabres improved to 3-2 in the season series against their Northeast Division rivals. … New Jersey won all four games on its road trip after holding off Tampa Bay 3-2.
FINALLY
New York Islanders’ forward Andy Hilbert snapped a 27-game goalless drought during Saturday night’s 2-1 win over Boston. Hilbert last scored March 24 at Philadelphia, and didn’t even have a point in 20 contests – a stretch going back to April 7, also at Philadelphia, even though he had played all 19 of New York’s games this season.
