Toronto captain Mats Sundin broke the 83-year-old team record for longest season-opening home point streak during Saturday night’s 4-2 win over Pittsburgh. Sundin had an assist to give him at least one point in each of the Leafs’ first 15 home games, one more than Babe Dye during the 1924-25 campaign. … Detroit improved to 11-2 at home this season after edging Phoenix 3-2. … St. Louis won its sixth straight home game and for the eighth time in its last 10 games (8-1-1) overall after a 3-1 victory over Chicago.

Colorado captain Joe Sakic didn’t play in Saturday night’s game at Los Angeles because of a sore groin, ending his consecutive games streak at 232.
SUDDENLY SLUMPING SENS
Ottawa was dealt its sixth straight loss Saturday after a 5-2 defeat to the New York Rangers. The Senators are also 1-5-2 in their last eight games after racing to a 15-2 start. With the win, the Rangers moved a game behind Ottawa for the conference lead.
SEEING STARS
Philadelphia is winless in its last five at home (0-3-2) after a 4-1 loss to Dallas on Saturday night. The Flyers are also winless in their last five games against the Stars (0-2-3) and had their eight-game undefeated streak (2-0-6) against Dallas in Philadelphia snapped.
MILESTONE NIGHT
Vincent Lecavalier scored his 250th NHL goal and Martin St. Louis reached 300 career assists in Saturday night’s 4-1 win over Boston. Lecavalier, who was playing in his 655th game, has 16 goals and 39 points in 34 contests against Boston.
FINALLY
Mark Bell scored his first goal in 12 games with Toronto and Jason Blake got his first since Oct. 18 in Saturday night’s 4-2 win over Pittsburgh. Blake came into the game with only two goals on 115 shots, the sixth-most in the league.
RALLY TIME
Nashville scored three times in the final 7:34 of regulation and twice in the shootout for a stunning 5-4 win at Montreal on Saturday night. The Predators scored four goals in the third overall.

Tampa Bay halted a six-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over Boston on Saturday night.
FLICKERING FLAMES
Calgary has lost four in a row and six of eight at home (2-5-1) after a 4-3 overtime defeat to Columbus on Saturday night.

The New York Islanders have just three power-play goals in their last 43 chances after going 0-for-4 in Saturday night’s 4-0 loss to Atlanta. … Colorado has connected on only two of 37 power-play opportunities in eight games, and own the worst percentage on the road (4-for-57) after failing to convert on all of its three attempts in a 5-2 win at Los Angeles.
RETIRED
Minnesota center Wes Walz announced his retirement on Saturday, ending his 13-year NHL career as the team’s career leader in games played. Walz, one of only two remaining original members of the Wild’s first team in 2000, had one goal and three assists in 11 games this season before leaving the team to contemplate his future. His leave of absence lasted a month. He finished his NHL career – which included time with Boston, Philadelphia, Calgary and Detroit – with 109 goals and 151 assists in 607 games
