Mike Sillinger scored a power-play goal with 27.7 seconds left in overtime to help the New York Islanders snap a five-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night. Bill Guerin snapped his 16-game goal drought for the Islanders.
WILD WIN
Niklas Backstrom made 31 saves to help the Wild beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 Saturday night. The Wild had not won in Columbus since Jan. 18, 2002.
HOME WOES
The Buffalo Sabres added to San Jose’s home woes with a 7-1 victory over the Sharks on Saturday night. The Sharks, who have the best road mark in the league, are among the worst at home. Their four wins at the Shark Tank matches the Washington Capitals for the fewest in the league.
CLUTCH
Rookie defenseman Kris Letang scored his second straight shootout winner in the sixth round, lifting the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night. Letang beat Miikka Kiprusoff in the shootout to seal a win in Calgary on Thursday.
