Martin Brodeur broke a tie with George Hainesworth for second place on the NHL’s career shutout list, making 30 saves in New Jersey’s 1-0 overtime victory over Calgary on Sunday night. Brodeur has three shutouts this season to push his career total to 95. Terry Sawchuk tops the list with 103.
WELCOME BACK
Linemates Mike Ribeiro, Antti Miettinen and Brenden Morrow scored goals, and Dallas beat Montreal 4-1 on Sunday night. Ribeiro also had two assists in his first game against his former team to help the Stars improve to 6-1 in their past seven games. The game marked the return of Montreal coach Guy Carbonneau, who played five seasons for the Stars and helped them win the Stanley Cup in 1999. Ribeiro, a Montreal native, was traded by the Canadiens to the Stars prior to the 2006-07 season and has developed into Dallas’ top scorer with 39 points this season.
SCORING SPREE
Ilya Kovalchuk scored his NHL-leading 29th goal for Atlanta, and the Thrashers beat St. Louis 3-2 in overtime. Kovalchuk has 25 goals and 16 assists in the past 28 games for the Thrashers, who climbed above .500 at 18-17-1.
STREAKING
Nashville has won 11 straight, including three this season, against Columbus dating to April 3, 2006 after a 3-1 win on Sunday. … Atlanta has won four in a row, beating St. Louis 3-2 in overtime on Sunday. It is Atlanta’s first win in St. Louis in franchise history.
POWER OUTAGE
Columbus was 0-for-4 on the power play in a 3-1 loss to Nashville on Sunday and the Blue Jackets are 5-for-56 with the man advantage in their past 13 games.
STRONG IN DEFEAT
Keith Tkachuk had a goal and an assist for St. Louis, giving him six points in three games, but the Blues lost 3-2 in overtime to Atlanta.
