Detroit and New Jersey both needed late heroics to tie up their respective semifinal series at a game apiece on Saturday. The Red Wings trailed San Jose 2-0 early in the first period before rallying for a 3-2 win on Pavel Datsyuk’s goal with 1:24 left. Later that night, the Devils allowed Ottawa to tie the game in the final minute of regulation, but Jamie Langenbrunner scored 1:55 into the second overtime to give New Jersey a 3-2 victory.
DENIED AGAIN
Ottawa failed to take its first-ever 2-0 series lead after losing to New Jersey 3-2 in double-overtime on Saturday night. The Senators have won Game 1 eight times in 16 matchups, including this year’s first round against Pittsburgh.
