CLEARED
New York Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro will get his confiscated pads back and won’t be suspended for using them for one period of Thursday’s overtime loss to the Florida Panthers. DiPietro wore new white pads for warmups and the first period Thursday, but was told before the second that he couldn’t use them for the rest of the game. There was confusion about whether the pads were examined and approved by the NHL as is required before they can be worn in a game.
MAKING MOVES
The Carolina Hurricanes sent struggling goaltender John Grahame to Albany of the American Hockey League on Friday. Grahame is 4-6-1 while allowing an average of 3.83 goals with a .875 save percentage in 13 games.
SPEAKING
“If he’s cut, good. But I didn’t bite him. I didn’t think anything of it until someone mentioned it to me. He went like that (face wash) right across my face. He got his glove on my tooth, almost pulled it out. It’s all sore.” – Philadelphia defenseman Derian Hatcher denying that he bit the finger of Travis Zajac during the Flyers’ 3-0 loss to the Devils on Friday night.
