– Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson, Senators, both scored a goal and added an assist in helping Ottawa eliminate New Jersey with a 3-2 win.
MOVING OUT
Scott Gomez scored twice for New Jersey as the Devils were eliminated from the second round of the playoffs with a 3-2 loss to Ottawa Saturday night. The game may have been the final one at the Continental Airlines Arena for New Jersey. The three-time Stanley Cup champions are moving to a new arena in Newark next season. They will leave the Meadowlands having not advanced past the second round in the last three postseasons.
SIDELINED
Detroit defenseman Mathieu Schneider broke his wrist during the first period of the Red Wings’ 4-1 victory over San Jose Saturday. The injury knocked him out of the game and for the remainder of the playoffs. Schneider, who scored the overtime goal in San Jose on Wednesday night that evened the series at 2, was hurt when checked by Sharks captain Patrick Marleau. The Red Wings were already ailing on defense with Brett Lebda out with an ankle injury.
SIGNED
Boston signed Finnish goalie Tuukka Rask to a multiyear contract Saturday. The 21st overall pick in the 2005 NHL draft has played two seasons in a Finnish league. Last season, he had a 2.09 goals against average and a .926 save percentage in 30 games with Ilves Tampere.
