BACK ON THE POND
Teemu Selanne signed a one-year deal to return to the Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks on Monday after missing the first half of the season contemplating retirement. Selanne had 48 goals and 46 assists last season, when he led the league in power-play goals with 25 and tied for first in game-winning goals with 10.
THREE STARS
Daniel Alfredsson, Alex Ovechkin and Pascal Leclaire were named the NHL’s Three Stars for the week ending Jan. 27. Alfredsson set an Ottawa record with seven points (three goals, four assists)in an 8-4 win over Tampa Bay last Thursday. Ovechkin tallied six points in three games for Washington, and Leclaire recorded two wins and his league-leading eighth shutout while stopping 61 of 63 shots for the week.
RECALLED
Columbus recalled defenseman Marc Methot from its American Hockey League affiliate in Syracuse on Monday. Methot has appeared in six games without a point with the Blue Jackets this season. He also has two goals and an assist in 40 games with Syracuse.
