CAPITAL OFFENSE
Alexander Ovechkin scored his NHL-high 47th goal, one more than he had last season, and added two assists in a 3-2 overtime win over the New York Rangers on Sunday. He now has an NHL-best 76 points and has 23 goals and 36 points in his last 22 games.
MALKIN THE MAGNIFICENT
Evgeni Malkin had a goal and three assists, giving him seven points in two days, and Pittsburgh beat Philadelphia 4-3 on Sunday. Malkin has 15 points during a stretch of five consecutive multi-point games and has 21 points in 10 games with Sidney Crosby out.
TWICE AS NICE
Brent Burns produced his second game-winning goal in two days, scoring in the sixth round of a shootout to send Minnesota past St. Louis 2-1 on Sunday. Burns’ overtime goal was also the difference in the Wild’s 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday.
KINGS REIGN
Los Angeles snapped a four-game skid against Columbus with a 3-2 win on Sunday, handing the Blue Jackets their fourth straight loss at home. The Kings, the league’s worst team, are in the midst of a 9-4-1 stretch.

Anaheim downed Detroit 3-2 to win its fourth straight and hand the NHL-leading Red Wings their third straight loss.
MILESTONES
Olaf Kolzig stopped 31 shots in his 700th career game and Washington regained first place in the Southeast Division with a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers on Sunday. It was the 296th victory of Kolzig’s career, tying him with Ron Hextall for 23rd place on the career list. … Ryan Miller stopped 22 shots in Buffalo’s 5-3 win over Florida, earning his 100th career win. … Detroit’s Chris Chelios played in his 1,600th career game, a 3-2 loss to Anaheim.
SNAPPED
Washington upended the Rangers 3-2 in overtime on Sunday to snap New York’s four-game road winning streak. … Alexander Ovechkin scored his NHL-high 17th power-play goal in the win for the Capitals, who had been 0-for-18 with the extra man in their previous six games. … Pittsburgh beat Philadelphia for the first time in four tries this season, 4-3.
SCARY
Florida forward Richard Zednik was in stable condition at a Buffalo hospital while having surgery to close a deep gash on the right side of his neck, which was sliced by a teammate’s skate during the Panthers’ 5-3 loss to the Sabres on Sunday. Zednik was behind the play and skating into the right corner of the Buffalo zone when teammate Olli Jokinen was upended by Sabres forward Clarke MacArthur. Jokinen fell head-first to the ice, and his right leg flew up and struck Zednik directly on the side of the neck.
