Jere Lehtinen assisted on both goals in Dallas’ 2-1 victory over Phoenix on Monday, the Stars’ franchise record-tying seventh straight win. Dallas has a seven-game winning streak for the fourth time in club history. The last time the Stars won seven in a row was Nov. 22-Dec. 5, 1997.
SCARY SITUATION
Florida forward Richard Zednik lost five units of blood, but doctors never considered his life in jeopardy after the player had his carotid artery nearly severed by a teammate’s skate in a freak and frightening accident during a game in Buffalo on Sunday. Zednik underwent an hour of surgery to reconnect the artery Sunday night and was listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit at Buffalo General Hospital on Monday. He was awake and cooperative with the medical staff, doctors said.

Ottawa acquired forward Cory Stillman and defenseman Mike Commodore from Carolina for forward Patrick Eaves and defenseman Joe Corvo on Monday. Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said Stillman waived a no-trade clause to complete the deal. … Dallas right wing Krys Barch agreed Monday to a two-year, $1.15 million contract extension through 2009-10. … Detroit put defenseman Niklas Kronwall on injured reserve and recalled goaltender Jimmy Howard.
