UGLY ENDING
Vancouver beat Edmonton 4-2 Saturday night, but the game was marred by several fights over the final seconds of the game. After Alex Burrows scored an empty-net goal with 40 seconds left, Oilers forward Jarret Stoll brushed by him at the side of the net and Burrows responded with a wild one-handed swing that caught Stoll on the skates, touching off a wild scrum behind the Oilers goal. The final 40 seconds of the game would see 10 fighting majors, including Burrows receiving a game misconduct and a five-minute penalty for slashing. The teams combined for 71 penalty minutes in the third period and 193 on the game.

SPEAKING
“I don’t think words can describe it. It just shows you our lack of commitment to defense. Many times it didn’t cost us but today it cost us dearly. We basically had the game and gave it to them. There is no secret to it.” – Florida goalie Tomas Vokoun after the Panthers surrendered a two-goal, third-period lead for a 5-4 loss at Carolina on Saturday night.
