DEVILISH
Martin Brodeur, making his 22nd consecutive start, made 37 saves to lead New Jersey past Washington 2-1 in overtime on Sunday for its fifth straight win and seventh in eight games. The Devils moved one point ahead of idle Ottawa in the race for the Eastern Conference’s top seed.
WILD TAMED
Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 38 shots to help Calgary edge Minnesota 2-1 on Sunday and leapfrog into first place in the Northwest Division. The Flames have beaten the Wild, losers of their last three, four straight times. Minnesota hadn’t lost more than two in a row since going 0-4-1 from Oct. 24-Nov. 1. The Wild held a six-point advantage six days ago, but now trail Calgary by one point.
DROUGHT
Alex Ovechkin, who leads the NHL with 48 goals, was held without a goal for a season-high fifth straight game in Washington’s 2-1 overtime loss to New Jersey on Sunday.
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
Much-maligned Marek Malik scored his first goal of the season and chipped in an assist to help the New York Rangers pound Florida 5-0 on Sunday. Malik, who had three assists on opening night against the Panthers, has posted five of his six points this season versus Florida.
MOVES
Forward Joe Sakic was activated from the injured reserve list in time for Colorado’s game at Edmonton on Sunday. Sakic missed 38 games following a hernia operation on Dec. 28. … Marc-Andre Fleury was recalled from his minor-league rehabilitation stay on Sunday by Pittsburgh and is expected to play his first NHL game since Dec. 6 later this week as the Penguins, for now, will carry three goalies. With Fleury returning, Pittsburgh reassigned forward Connor James to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL.

Colorado has lost six of seven following a 3-2 loss to Edmonton on Sunday night.
MILESTONE
Teemu Selanne had his 20th career three-goal game to overtake Rocket Richard for 25th place on the career goal list, and also recorded his 600th assist to lead Anaheim to a 6-3 victory over Chicago on Sunday night.
