– Devin Setoguchi, Sharks, scored two goals to help San Jose beat Detroit 3-2.
– Brent Burns, Wild, scored a goal and added an assist in Minnesota’s 3-2 win over Florida.
– Mathieu Schneider and Scott Niedermayer, Ducks. The defensemen each had a goal and an assist as Anaheim defeated Calgary 3-1.
SHUT OUT
Cristobal Huet stopped 18 shots in his first start with Washington as the Capitals blanked Eastern Conference-Leading New Jersey 4-0 on Friday night. The shutout was the third of the season for Huet, acquired from Montreal for a draft pick in a trading deadline deal on Tuesday.
STREAKING
Anaheim beat Calgary 3-1 Friday night for its fifth straight victory. The Ducks, playing the sixth of a seven-game homestand, have now won 10 of their last 11 and are one shy of a season-high six in a row won last month. … Montreal moved ahead of idle Ottawa into first place in the Northeast Division with its sixth win in eight games, beating Buffalo 6-2. … Minnesota beat Florida for the sixth straight time, 3-2.
MILESTONE
Tampa Bay coach John Tortorella tied Bob Johnson for the most NHL wins by an Amercian-born coach with 234 when the Lightning beat Toronto 3-2 in overtime on Friday night.
MINOR MARKS
John Marks became the winningest coach in ECHL history when Pensacola beat Florida 5-4 Friday night. Marks, in his first season as Pensacola’s coach, and in a record 14th in the ECHL, passed John Brophy for the most career wins in the league with 481. Marks, who coached Charlotte for five seasons and then in Greenville for eight, has taken his teams to the playoffs 10 times and won an ECHL championship with each team.
