SHUTOUT
Jose Theodore stopped 27 shots to help Colorado shut out Anaheim 1-0 on Thursday night. It was Theodore’s 25th career shutout and second this season with the Avalanche, who won their fifth straight game. Theodore has been in net for all five victories, giving him his longest winning streak since March 2004 when he was with Montreal.
STREAKING
Carolina won its third straight game and sixth out of seven with a 3-2 victory over Minnesota on Thursday night. The Hurricanes, who improved to 9-2-1 since Feb. 12 and 9-1-1 in its last 11 home contests, opened up a five-point lead over idle Washington in the Southeast Division. … The New York Rangers earned a split of their home-and-home series with a 4-1 victory over the New York Islanders. The Rangers, 8-0-3 in their last 11, came out of the two-game series with three points out of four. … Toronto, six points out of the final Eastern Conference playoff spot, won for the seventh time in 10 games with an easy 8-2 win over Boston.
SNAPPED
Philadelphia defeated Tampa Bay 3-2 Thursday night to snap a five-year home losing streak against the Lightning. Tampa Bay had won eight straight in Philadelphia since Jan. 18, 2003. … Florida goalie Craig Anderson’s had his shutout streak and run of 106 consecutive saves snapped in the first period of the Panthers’ 5-2 win over Pittsburgh. Anderson, who had stopped 93 shots in his previous two outings at the New York Islanders and Boston Bruins, making Florida the first NHL team to win consecutive 1-0 games on the road, is the first goalie in league history – since such stats began being kept in the 1955-56 season – to ever stop more than 75 shots in consecutive shutouts.
MILESTONE
Toronto center Mats Sundin played his 1,300th career game in Thursday night’s 8-2 win against Boston, becoming the 46th player in NHL history to reach that mark. Sundin, in his 17th season – 13th with Toronto – scored his team-leading 30th goal and added an assist.
