ALL TIED UP
Anaheim evened the Western Conference finals at two games apiece with its 5-3 win over Detroit on Thursday night. The Red Wings won the opening game 2-1 in Detroit, the Ducks took the second 4-3 in overtime, also in Detroit. The Red Wings won the third game 5-0 in Anaheim, the Ducks’ most lopsided playoff loss ever.
POWER RESTORED
Anaheim scored two power-play goals on five attempts in its 5-3 win over Detroit on Thursday night. The Ducks had gone 0-for-16 on the power play during the first three games of the series and 0-for-31 over the previous five games combined.
STRONG IN DEFEAT
Daniel Cleary had two goals and an assist, but Detroit lost 5-3 at Anaheim on Thursday night.
SABRE SITS
Sabres center Dainius Zubrus is unlikely to play Saturday when Buffalo hosts Ottawa in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals. Zubrus, acquired from Washington in a trade-deadline deal in March, has been hampered by a lower body injury that limited him to just four minutes of ice time in Buffalo’s 3-2 win in Game 4 on Wednesday.
SIGNED
Lasse Kukkonen agreed to a two-year contract with Philadelphia on Thursday. The defenseman had five goals and 14 points in 74 games for the Flyers and Chicago last season while leading all NHL rookies in blocked shots with 151.
SPEAKING
“We’ve got one of the best goalies in the league, if not the best. But we somehow found a way to make him look bad, and we’ve got to find a way to correct that.” – Detroit defenseman Chris Chelios on teammate Dominik Hasek after Thursday night’s 5-3 loss to Anaheim in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals. The series is now tied 2-2.
