David Legwand had the second three-goal game of his career to help the Nashville Predators beat the Dallas Stars 5-1 on Saturday night.
STRONG ISLAND
Mike Comrie made the most of his first two games with the Islanders, scoring two goals for the second straight night and lifting New York to a 3-2 victory Saturday that completed a sweep of the season-opening, home-and-home series against Buffalo. The Islanders have won four consecutive home openers
FLYING HIGH
Geoff Sanderson had two goals and Joni Pitkanen added another as both scored in their first game against their former team, helping Edmonton beat Philadelphia 5-3 on Saturday night. Sanderson and Pitkanen joined the Oilers in a July 1 deal with the Flyers in exchange for Jason Smith and Joffrey Lupul.
BACK UP
Martin Gerber stopped 35 shots for his eighth career shutout, leading the Ottawa Senators to a 2-0 win over the New York Rangers on Saturday night. Gerber, who got his first shutout since Feb. 14, has led Ottawa to three straight wins to begin the season while starting goalie Ray Emery recovers from offseason wrist surgery.

John Madden scored twice in the New Jersey Devils’ 4-1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Saturday night, giving Brent Sutter his first NHL coaching victory.
SNAPPED
The Boston Bruins snapped a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season with a 3-1 over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night. The win was Boston’s first in Phoenix since a 3-2 victory Oct. 8, 1997. The teams had met 11 times since but only four times in Phoenix.
