Kings acquire RW Kris Versteeg from Hurricanes

LOS ANGELES (AP) The Los Angeles Kings have acquired veteran forward Kris Versteeg from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for prospect Valentin Zykov and a conditional fifth-round draft pick.
The deal was announced during the Kings’ game at Anaheim on Sunday night.
The 29-year-old Versteeg had 11 goals and 22 assists in 62 games for the Hurricanes, who acquired him in September from Chicago.
Versteeg played only 5:47 during Carolina’s 5-2 loss to St. Louis on Sunday and didn’t play at all in the third period. The two-way forward has been traded six times since June 2010, also playing for Toronto, Philadelphia and Florida. His contract expires after this season.
Earlier in the day, Carolina traded captain Eric Staal to the New York Rangers for a prospect and draft picks.
Zykov was a second-round pick in 2013. He plays for the Kings’ AHL affiliate in Ontario.
