WASHINGTON (AP) -Jeff Schultz scored 53 seconds into the second period, lifting the Washington Capitals to a 3-2 victory over New Jersey on Monday night and snapping the Devils’ point streak at 10 games.
The Devils lost for the second consecutive night after winning nine straight. They earned one point Sunday during a 1-0 overtime defeat in New York against the Rangers. New Jersey hadn’t lost in regulation since another 1-0 defeat on Nov. 16 to the New York Islanders.
John Madden and David Clarkson scored for New Jersey.
Quintin Laing scored Alex Ovechkin had an assist, giving him nine points (four goals and five assists) in five games.
Bruins 4, Sabres 1
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – Alex Auld made 44 saves, and Marc Savard had a goal and assist to lift Boston to its second straight win.
Auld made several scintillating saves in the second and third periods when Boston was outshot by a 33-15 margin since being acquired from Phoenix on Thursday.
P.J. Axelsson, Peter Schaefer and Glen Metropolit also scored for the Bruins, who won their second straight and third in five games.
Jaroslav Spacek scored for Buffalo, which lost for the fourth time in six games. Sabres goalie Ryan Miller finished with 17 saves.
Maple Leafs 6, Lightning 1
TORONTO (AP) – Jason Blake started a four-goal spurt in the second period, Chad Kilger scored twice and Toronto routed Tampa Bay.
Matt Stajan, Nik Antropov and captain Mats Sundin also scored for the Leafs, who play their next seven games on the road
Michel Ouellet scored for the Lightning, who have an NHL-worst 2-11-1 road record.
League-leading scorer Vincent Lecavalier did not get a point for the for the first time since Tampa Bay’s game Nov. 29 against Detroit.
Ducks 4, Blue Jackets 3, OT
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Chris Pronger scored a power-play goal with 1:45 left in overtime to give the Anaheim the win.
The 14-year veteran earlier had an assist in his 900th career game.
Corey Perry had two power-play goals and Samuel Pahlsson scored on a penalty shot for Anaheim, which has won three of four. Mathieu Schneider and Ryan Getzlaf each had two assists.
Rostislav Klesla and Nikolai Zherdev each had a power-play goal and an assist for Columbus, losers of three of four. Kris Beech also scored and Michael Peca added two assists.
Pascal Leclaire, who finished with 24 saves.
Red Wings 2, Predators 1
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tomas Kopecky and Valterri Filppula scored, and Detroit won its seventh straight.
Martin Gelinas scored for Nashville.
Kopecky opened the scoring 7:10 into the game, firing a one-timer from inside the right circle that found the net between goalie Dan Ellis and the left post.
Chris Osgood made 30 saves for Detroit, while Dan Ellis hade 33 for the Predators.
