PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Joffrey Lupul notched a hat trick and had six points, and R.J. Umberger matched him with three goals to snap Philadelphia’s five-game winless skid at home and lift the Flyers to an 8-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night.
Lupul had the first six-point game for a Flyer since Eric Lindros on March 1, 1997, against Toronto.
The Flyers improved to 3-0 this season against their Atlantic Division rival, a needed turnaround after an 0-8 mark against the Penguins last year. The Flyers also won their first home game since they beat the Islanders on Nov. 12, to improve to 6-0 at the Wachovia Center.
Sidney Crosby assisted on both goals for the Penguins, who ended a four-game winning streak. Ryan Whitney and Petr Sykora scored goals in the first period that tied the score at 2.
Mike Knuble and Braydon Coburn scored goals in the third period for the Flyers.
The Flyers scored five goals against goalie Dany Sabourin before he was yanked for Ty Conklin to start the third.
Flames 2, Panthers 1, SO
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) – Jarome Iginla scored with 10.2 seconds left to send the game to overtime and Calgary went on to beat Florida in a shootout.
Kristian Huselius, a former Panthers player, scored the only goal in the shootout.
Meanwhile, Calgary goalie Miikka Kiprusoff stopped Nathan Horton, Olli Jokinen and Stephen Weiss, all of whom tried to beat him with a deke.
Jokinen scored the only goal for the Panthers.
Kiprusoff made 32 saves in regulation and overtime for Calgary, which was playing at the BankAtlantic Center for the first time since Nov. 9, 2002.
Tomas Vokoun stopped 34 shots while coming close to his second consecutive shutout. He blanked the Islanders 3-0 on Friday night.
Lightning 3, Canadiens 2, SO
MONTREAL (AP) – Brad Richards scored in the shootout and Tampa Bay handed Montreal its sixth straight home loss.
Marc Denis stopped Tomas Plekanec, Andrei Kostitsyn and Saku Koivu after turning aside 29 shots during the game to claim his first win of the season.
Plekanec brought the sold-out Bell Centre crowd of 21,273 to life with 4:38 remaining when he tied it at 2, beating Denis with a shot from the slot for his 10th goal. Alex Kovalev also scored for Montreal.
Vincent Lecavalier scored his 20th goal, and Andre Roy his second for Tampa Bay.
Oilers 5, Blues 4, SO
ST. LOUIS (AP) – Shawn Horcoff had a goal and an assist and scored the only goal in a shootout to help Edmonton snap the Blues’ six-game home winning streak.
Fernando Pisani’s first goal of the season tied it at 4 with 4:08 to go for the Oilers, who are 2-10-3 in St. Louis since the 1999-2000 season.
Doug Weight had two goals and an assist for the Blues, whose six-game home winning streak ended. Weight has four goals in the last three games after failing to score in the first 25 games. David Backes and Brad Boyes also scored for the Blues.
Dustin Penner and Sheldon Souray added goals for Edmonton.
Sharks 4, Wild 1
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) – Steve Bernier scored two goals and Evgeni Nabokov made 36 saves in San Jose’s fifth victory in six games.
Joe Pavelski had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who moved back into a first-place tie with Dallas in the Pacific Division standings by winning at home for just the second time in six games since Nov. 12.
Niklas Backstrom stopped 26 shots for the Wild, who have lost three of four. Branko Radivojevic ended Nabokov’s bid for his fifth shutout of the season on a power-play goal with 9:02 to play.
Mike Grier also scored for the Sharks.
