NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -Fredrik Sjostrom scored twice and Martin Hanzal had a goal and three assists Saturday to lead the Phoenix Coyotes to a 4-1 win over the New Jersey Devils.
Mikael Tellqvist, a backup since the arrival of Ilya Bryzgalov, made 30 saves in his first start for Phoenix since Nov. 12. He lost the shutout when Zach Parise scored a short-handed goal with 6 minutes remaining.
Radim Vrbata also scored for the Coyotes, who are 2-1 at the midpoint of a season-high six-game road trip.
The loss ended the Devils’ five-game winning streak at home and was only their third loss in the last 13 games.
Stars 4, Sharks 2
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) – Mike Ribeiro and Brenden Morrow each had a goal and an assist for Dallas, which has won five straight games in San Jose.
Antti Miettinen scored the go-ahead goal and Steve Ott added an empty-netter for Dallas.
Devin Setoguchi and Patrick Rissmiller had goals for San Jose.
Marty Turco made 16 saves in his 17th win against San Jose in 26 games. San Jose’s Evgeni Nabokov, playing in his 31st straight game, stopped 17 shots.
Sabres 3, Blackhawks 1
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – Thomas Vanek had a goal and assist, and Ryan Miller made 26 saves to spoil Patrick Kane’s homecoming and help lift the Sabres over Chicago.
Drew Stafford and Jason Pominville also scored, and Derek Roy added two assists for Buffalo, which won its third straight and fourth in five games.
Kane scored 2:35 in, his first goal in 14 games, for the slumping Blackhawks. Chicago has lost five of six overall, and four straight on the road.
The game was Kane’s first in his hometown. The No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft grew up about six miles from the Sabres’ downtown arena, and had about 500 family and friends in attendance.
Miller was solid in making his fifth straight start and 10th consecutive appearance.
Red Wings 5, Panthers 2
DETROIT (AP) – Dan Cleary and Brian Rafalski scored in a 1:04 span early in the third period to break a tie, and Valtteri Filppula converted one of Detroit’s two penalty shots in a victory over Florida.
Rafalski added an assist, Pavel Datsyuk also had a goal and an assist, and Johan Franzen had a goal for the NHL-leading Red Wings, 3-for-6 on the power play.
Henrik Zetterberg had two assists, and Chris Osgood made 33 saves.
Olli Jokinen and Radek Dvorak scored for Florida, and Tomas Vokoun stopped 41 shots.
Senators 7, Thrashers 3
OTTAWA (AP) – Dany Heatley scored twice, and Antoine Vermette had a goal and two assists in the Senators’ win over Atlanta.
Nick Foligno, Chris Kelly, Joe Corvo and Andrej Meszaros also scored for the Senators, who played their first home game in two weeks. Jason Spezza had two assists.
Ottawa won its fifth straight following a seven-game losing streak. Atlanta has dropped four in a row.
Ilya Kovalchuk scored twice for the Thrashers, and Eric Perrin added Atlanta’s other goal. Marian Hossa had two assists in the loss.
Johan Hedberg started for Atlanta but he was pulled in the second period after allowing five goals on 24 shots. Kari Lehtonen took over in net and gave up two goals on 19 shots.
Canadiens 4, Maple Leafs 1
MONTREAL (AP) – Saku Koivu scored twice and Carey Price made 28 saves to lead Montreal over Toronto.
Andrei Kostitsyn and Alex Kovalev also scored for the Canadiens, who had lost six straight at home (0-4-2).
Price, a 20-year-old rookie making his sixth straight start, came within 4:06 of recording his first NHL shutout.
Boyd Devereaux scored for Toronto – his fifth of the season – 15:54 into the third period.
The Maple Leafs had won two straight, and six of seven.
Vesa Toskala stopped 21 shots a night after making 24 saves for his second shutout of the season in a 4-0 win Friday in Atlanta.
Bruins 2, Blue Jackets 0
BOSTON (AP) – Jeremy Reich scored his first NHL goal and Alex Auld stopped 32 shots for his first shutout with Boston.
Auld, acquired from Phoenix on Dec. 6 after starting goalie Tim Thomas went down with a strained groin, improved to 4-1 with Boston. It was his fourth career shutout and second this season.
The Bruins remained the only team not lose consecutive regulation games despite getting only 18 shots.
Marco Sturm added an empty-net goal with 11.9 seconds left to ruin Columbus’ first visit to Boston since Jan. 18, 2003.
Boston, which entered with the NHL’s worst penalty-killing percentage, held Columbus scoreless in five chances, including one in the closing 2 1/2 minutes.
Penguins 3, Islanders 2
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -Tyler Kennedy scored the winning goal and added two assists for Pittsburgh, which snapped a two-game losing streak and beat the New York Islanders.
Sidney Crosby and Ryan Whitney also scored for Pittsburgh, which got 27 saves from Dany Sabourin.
Rick DiPietro stopped 37 shots for the Islanders. Richard Park and Josef Vasicek had goals for New York, 4-8-2 in its last 14 contests.
The Penguins, who raced to a 14-2 shots advantage, scored twice in a 3:47 span to grab a 2-0 lead in the first period. Crosby scored his 15th goal 2:48 in.
Capitals 3, Lightning 2
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Brian Pothier scored a power-play goal in third period to help Washington beat Tampa Bay.
Thomas Fleischmann and David Steckel added goals, and Brent Johnson made 23 saves.
Paul Ranger and Vincent Lecavalier scored for Tampa Bay, and Johan Holmqvist made 29 saves after being pulled from his previous two starts.
Hurricanes 6, Flyers 5, SO
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Rod Brind’Amour banked a shootout shot in off the crossbar to lift Carolina.
Brind’Amour’s goal came after teammates Matt Cullen and Jeffrey Hamilton traded tallies in the tiebreaker with Philadelphia’s Mike Richards and Joffrey Lupul.
Niclas Wallin, who also had an assist, Cullen, Eric Staal, and Trevor Letowski scored in regulation for the Southeast Division leaders, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Cory Stillman, who leads the Hurricanes with 16 goals, was helped off the ice after he injured a knee during a collision with Philadelphia defenseman Derian Hatcher at 15:02 of the first period. He didn’t return.
Lupul scored three goals – his second hat trick in three games – and Scott Hartnell and Danny Briere also scored for the Flyers, who have won only one of eight home games (1-5-2) since opening the season 6-0 in Philadelphia.
Carolina backup John Grahame made 36 saves.
Avalanche 3, Predators 1
DENVER (AP) – Paul Stastny and Marek Svatos scored second-period goals to lead Colorado over Nashville.
Stastny has 29 points (11 goals and 18 assists) in Colorado’s 16 home games. Justin Leopold added his first goal of the season for the Avalanche, 4-1 in their last five games.
Colorado’s Peter Budaj made 31 saves. The Avalanche recorded a season-low 16 shots, including just five in the first period when they allowed 17 but no goals.
Wild 2, Kings 1
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Josh Harding made 35 saves, Brian Rolston scored during a 5-on-3 power play, and Minnesota beat Los Angeles.
Harding lost his shutout bid with 1:12 remaining, after the Kings pulled goalie Jean-Sebastien Aubin, when Michael Cammalleri sent the puck in off the skate of teammate Rob Blake.
This was the first time the Wild have won consecutive games with Harding in net.
Marian Gaborik also scored for Minnesota, 11-12-1 following a 7-0-1 start.
Oilers 2, Canucks 1, SO
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) – Fernando Pisani scored the deciding goal in the shootout for Edmonton, which earned its third straight post-regulation win.
Edmonton (16-16-2) moved back to the .500 mark for the first time since the fourth game of the season. The Oilers are 8-3-1 in their last 12 and have 10 wins this season in shootouts.
It was the second loss in a row for Vancouver, which lost for the third time on its now completed four-game road trip.
After going scoreless for over 56 minutes, the teams traded goals two minutes apart late in regulation.
Shawn Horcoff scored with 3:29 remaining in the third period, but the Canucks tied it with 1:28 left on Mattias Ohlund’s goal.
