BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -Dany Heatley had a goal and two assists, Martin Gerber made 29 saves and the Ottawa Senators beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-3 on Wednesday night.
Wade Redden added a goal and assist for the Senators, who scored three times in the second period.
Antoine Vermette, Mike Fisher and Daniel Alfredsson also scored for Ottawa, which has won two straight and eight of its last 10.
Jochen Hecht, Brian Campbell and Adam Mair scored for Buffalo, which had its season-high six-game winning streak snapped while losing for just the fifth time in the last 18 games.
Sabres goalie Ryan Miller made 19 saves in his ninth straight start.
Red Wings 5, Blues 0
ST. LOUIS (AP) – Chris Osgood stopped 20 shots for his 45th career shutout, leading Detroit to its fifth win in six games.
Center Valtteri Filppula scored twice to pace the Red Wings, who improved to 27-7-3 overall.
St. Louis, playing in front of its largest home crowd of the season, fell to 18-13-3.
Brian Rafalski added a goal and two assists for Detroit. Nicklas Lidstrom celebrated a new contract by scoring his fifth of the season for the Red Wings just 2:26 into the game. Jiri Hudler added a goal and an assist.
Stars 8, Wild 3
DALLAS (AP) – Brenden Morrow had two goals, Mike Ribeiro matched a career high with his 20th goal and added two assists, and Dallas routed Minnesota.
Dallas’ Mike Modano extended his goal-scoring record for U.S.-born players with the 518th of his career.
Niklas Hagman, Stu Barnes, Jeff Halpern, and Loui Eriksson also scored for the Stars, 7-1 in their last eight games.
Pavol Demitra notched two goals, and Aaron Voros had a goal and an assist for the Wild.
Sharks 3, Kings 2
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Milan Michalek scored two goals and San Jose set a club record with its seventh consecutive road victory, handing Los Angeles its eighth straight loss overall.
Joe Pavelski also scored and Evgeni Nabokov stopped 29 shots as the Sharks began a four-game road trip. The previous club mark for consecutive road wins was Nov. 30-Dec. 19, 2001.
Rob Blake and Lubomir Visnovsky scored power-play goals for Los Angeles, which owns the NHL’s worst record at 12-24-2. Dustin Brown, the team’s leading goal scorer, returned to the lineup after missing two games with a shoulder injury.
Capitals 3, Lightning 2
WASHINGTON (AP) – Hours after Bruce Boudreau formally got the job he coveted, the Capitals marked the occasion with a feel-good victory.
Matt Bradley scored the tiebreaking goal with 2:53 left, and Washington ended a three-game skid by beating Tampa Bay.
David Steckel had a goal and two assists for the Capitals, who earlier in the day learned that the team removed the “interim” tag from Boudreau’s title. Washington improved to 8-5-3 under Boudreau, who took over for the fired Glen Hanlon on Thanksgiving.
Vincent Lecavalier scored both Tampa Bay goals. The Lightning have lost five of six and are an NHL-worst 3-13-1 on the road.
Islanders 4, Maple Leafs 3, OT
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) – Mike Comrie scored with 9.6 seconds left in overtime, Wade Dubielewicz made 22 saves in relief of injured Rick DiPietro and New York spoiled Jason Blake’s return.
Blake spent parts of six seasons with the Islanders before signing with Toronto during the summer.
Comrie also scored in the first period, as did Andy Hilbert and Bill Guerin to stake DiPietro to a lead. But he didn’t come out after intermission because of a knee injury sustained in pregame warmups.
Alex Steen and Mark Bell scored in the first period for Toronto, and Steen tied it at 3 in the third period. The Maple Leafs are 1-2-2 in their last five, all on the road.
Blackhawks 5, Predators 2
CHICAGO (AP) – Robert Lang scored two goals in the third period and the Blackhawks won their season-high fourth straight.
Patrick Sharp, Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane each had a goal and assist for the Blackhawks.
Chicago’s Nikolai Khabibulin was sharp and made 30 saves.
Alexander Radulov and Marek Zidlicky scored for Nashville, which had won its previous two games.
Rangers 4, Hurricanes 2
NEW YORK (AP) – Jaromir Jagr scored twice to end a goal-scoring slump and Brendan Shanahan set up a pair of third-period power-play goals to help New York beat Carolina.
Chris Drury and Dan Girardi also scored for the Rangers, who snapped a three-game losing streak, winning for only the third time in the last 11 games.
Scott Walker and Eric Staal scored for Carolina, which had won 3-of-4.
Henrik Lundqvist finished with 20 saves.
Blue Jackets 2, Thrashers 0
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Pascal Leclaire made 21 saves for his league-leading seventh shutout and Columbus snapped Atlanta’s four-game winning streak.
With Rick Nash out nursing a sore throat, Dan Fritsche and Jared Boll picked up the scoring for Columbus, which entered having tallied only four goals in the last four games, three of them losses.
Fritsche started the scoring with a power-play goal at 7:39 of the first period on a wrist shot down the right wing that snuck under the arm of goalie Kari Lehtonen. The man-advantage tally was only the Blue Jackets’ sixth in their last 58 opportunities.
Boll made it 2-0 early in the second period with his fourth goal of the year.
