DETROIT (AP) -Manny Legace made 31 saves for his 20th career shutout to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 2-0 win over the NHL-leading Detroit Red Wings on Monday night.
It was the first time Detroit, winners of 14 of its last 16 games, was held scoreless this season. St. Louis snapped a four-game losing streak.
Erik Johnson and Lee Stempniak scored for the Blues.
Legace, who played with the Red Wings from 1999-2000 until 2005-06, stopped Jiri Hudler on a breakaway with 8:05 left.
Dominik Hasek made 21 saves for the Red Wings.
Sharks 3, Wild 2
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Joe Thornton and Milan Michalek each had a pair of assists and San Jose Sharks made a mark in the NHL record book, beating Minnesota for their 10th consecutive road win.
Steve Bernier, Kyle McLaren and Jonathan Cheechoo scored for the Sharks, who last lost a road game on Nov. 9, and are now tied with four other teams for second on the NHL’s list for consecutive road wins.
Detroit won 12 straight on the road in March and April of 2006.
Dominic Moore and Mark Parrish scored for Minnesota, which had won six of its previous eight games.
Coyotes 4, Avalanche 3, SO
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Peter Mueller and Radim Vrbata scored in a shootout to give Phoenix a win over Colorado.
Vrbata scored two goals in the second period, both on the power play.
Colorado rallied to tie the game. Down 3-2, Cody McLeod’s second goal of the season with 4:49 left in the third period forced overtime.
Wojtek Wolski and Brett Clark also scored for Colorado.
Predators 1, Stars 0
DALLAS (AP) – J.P. Dumont scored a second-period goal, rookie Dan Ellis stopped 22 shots for his third career shutout and Nashville ended a seven-game losing streak in Dallas.
Dumont provided the Predators with all the scoring they’d need at 16:42 of the second period, striking from in front of the net off a setup by Alexander Radulov.
Nashville dominated the second period with a 15-5 shots advantage, but Dallas goaltender Marty Turco kept the Predators off the scoreboard until Dumont’s 12th goal of the season, also assisted by Jason Arnott, who used to play in Dallas.
Bruins 5, Thrashers 2
BOSTON (AP) – Mark Stuart broke a tie in the second period, Phil Kessel and Matt Lashoff added insurance goals in the third and Boston ended a six-game skid.
Boston’s first goal of the game – a power-play score by Dennis Wideman – was the team’s 18,000th, making the Bruins the second NHL team to reach that mark. Montreal has 18,886.
P.J. Axelsson also scored for the Bruins, winless with one shootout loss (0-5-1) in their previous six games.
Colin Stuart – brother of Boston’s Mark – scored his first NHL goal for Atlanta in just his second career game. Bobby Holik also scored for the Thrashers.
Blue Jackets 4, Oilers 2
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Rick Nash scored three times to break out of a goal-scoring slump and Columbus beat Edmonton.
Jiri Novotny had a goal, and Nikolai Zherdev added two assists for the Blue Jackets, who have won three straight at home.
Edmonton’s Ethan Moreau had his first goal in his second game back from a shoulder injury suffered last October. Steve Staios also scored for the Oilers, 0-4-2 in the past six games.
Pascal Leclaire had 26 saves for Columbus to improve to 13-7-3. Dwayne Roloson had 29 saves in the loss.
Islanders 4, Hurricanes 1
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Marc-Andre Bergeron had two goals and an assist, and New York scored three goals in a 3:39 stretch to beat Carolina.
Bill Guerin and Ruslan Fedotenko also scored and Mike Comrie added two assists for the Islanders.
Craig Adams scored for Carolina, which remained on top of the mediocre Southeast Division despite losing two straight by a combined 8-2 and dropping four of six.
Wade Dubielewicz, filling in for the injured Rick DiPietro, stopped 28 shots in winning his second straight start and leading the Islanders to their fifth win in six games.
