NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -Martin Brodeur stopped 36 shots in his 96th regular-season shutout, and the New Jersey Devils beat Philadelphia 3-0 Friday night for their 11th straight home win over the Flyers.
Brodeur has four shutouts this season and is seven shy of tying Terry Sawchuk’s mark of 103. Brodeur’s total of 118, including 22 in the playoffs, is an NHL record.
The Devils lost the first game of the season series but have won four straight, stretching their dominance over Philadelphia to 14-1-1. The Flyers haven’t won in New Jersey since March 9, 2004, and have one more chance this season.
Devils defenseman Paul Martin, who hadn’t recorded a point in 11 games, had a goal. Travis Zajac scored his first in nearly a month, and Patrik Elias added a power-play tally in his first game since missing two due to a groin injury. The Devils won their fifth in six games and are 16-4-1 in the past 21.
Brodeur has 40 of his 515 career wins against Philadelphia, his most against any team.
The Flyers had won three straight after an 0-4-2 skid.
Senators 5, Sabres 3
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – Dany Heatley and Daniel Alfredsson scored late in the third period, and Ottawa handed Buffalo its season-worst fifth straight loss.
Heatley, Alfredsson, Jason Spezza and Andrej Meszaros each had a goal and assist for the Senators, who snapped a two-game skid and won for the fourth time in six games.
Ray Emery made 36 saves and Cody Bass scored his first NHL goal. Ottawa owns the best road record in the Eastern Conference (14-4-2).
Ales Kotalik, Jochen Hecht and Michael Ryan scored for Buffalo, which erased a three-goal deficit before Heatley and Alfredsson scored. The Sabres played their first game since a 2-1 shootout loss to Pittsburgh in the NHL’s Winter Classic outdoor game on New Year’s Day.
Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller, making his 13th consecutive start, was pulled midway through the second period after allowing three goals on 17 shots. Jocelyn Thibault finished with eight saves in relief.
During their five-game losing streak, the Sabres have scored only eight times.
Hurricanes 4, Thrashers 3
ATLANTA (AP) – Cory Stillman scored the tiebreaking goal on a two-man advantage with 3:23 left, and Carolina overcame a pair of two-goal deficits to beat Atlanta.
Two days after Ilya Kovalchuk had four points in an overtime win at Carolina, the Thrashers star was held without a goal as the Hurricanes padded their Southeast Division lead to five points.
Stillman’s goal gave the Hurricanes their first lead. Carolina’s late power play came after a 4-minute high-sticking penalty on Ken Klee and a 2-minute delay of game penalty on Thrashers captain Bobby Holik.
The Thrashers fell to 4-13 when Kovalchuk, the NHL leader with 33 goals, is held without a goal. Atlanta (20-21-1) hoped to pull within a point of first-place Carolina but instead fell below .500.
Eric Staal, Ray Whitney and Casey Borer also scored for Carolina, which ended a three-game losing streak.
Hurricanes goalie Michael Leighton, called up from Albany of the American Hockey League when veteran backup John Grahame was waived on Thursday, made 23 stops.
Mark Recchi, Todd White and Pascal Dupuis scored for Atlanta.
Ducks 2, Blackhawks 1
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Corey Perry and Chris Kunitz scored in the first and last minutes of the opening period, leading Anaheim over Chicago.
Rookie Johan Hiller made 20 saves in his seventh NHL start, sending Chicago to its fourth straight loss and helping the Ducks beat the Blackhawks for the 11th time in 12 meetings. The only loss came in a shootout.
For the third time on this three-game road trip, the Blackhawks allowed a goal during the first minute of a period. Perry scored just 16 seconds after the opening faceoff, beating Nikolai Khabibulin.
Kunitz made it 2-0 on a power play just 47 seconds before the first intermission.
Patrick Sharp scored in the second period for the Blackhawks, his 21st goal and seventh in eight games.
