DALLAS (AP) -Dominik Hasek stopped 22 shots for his 78th career shutout, Brian Rafalski scored a first-period goal and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Dallas Stars 3-0 on Saturday.
Hasek also reached 375 victories to break a tie with John Vanbiesbrouck for 11th on the career list. Detroit has 31 wins, the most after 42 games in the franchise’s 82-year history.
Detroit scored on its first shot on goal when Rafalski struck on a one-timer from the slot off Dan Cleary’s setup at 3:44. Cleary also scored, beating Mike Smith with a sharp-angled shot at 10:08 of the third period. Johan Franzen added an empty-netter with 19.8 seconds left.
The streaking Red Wings are 16-2-2 in their last 20 games and moved to 5-0-1 against Dallas over the past two seasons. The Stars have lost four straight.
Flyers 3, Maple Leafs 2
TORONTO (AP) – Antero Niittymaki made 54 saves, and Steve Downie scored his first NHL goal to help Philadelphia win for the fourth time in five games.
Jeff Carter scored his 14th goal and Mike Richards added his 19th to support Niittymaki.
Mats Sundin scored both goals for Toronto, which lost despite a 56-32 shots advantage. Toronto fell to 1-4-1 since goalie Vesa Toskala went down with a groin injury.
Each team lost a player to injury in the first period. Toronto defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo reinjured his right knee, and Philadelphia forward Joffrey Lupul was too woozy to continue after colliding with big teammate Derian Hatcher.
Sharks 3, Blue Jackets 2
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) – Patrick Rissmiller scored two goals for the first time in his career, and San Jose snapped its five-game home winless skid with a victory over Columbus.
Steve Bernier also scored and Evgeni Nabokov made 21 saves in his 41st start of the season for San Jose. The Sharks have an NHL-low seven home wins midway through the regular season, yet they’ve remained among the league’s elite teams with the best road record in hockey.
Sergei Fedorov and Andrew Murray scored third-period goals for the Blue Jackets. Pascal Leclaire made 13 saves, but was yanked before the third period in favor of Fredrik Norrena.
Coyotes 3, Ducks 2, SO
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Peter Mueller scored the only goal in a shootout to give Phoenix the win over Anaheim, its third straight at home.
Mueller was the first Phoenix shooter and beat Jean-Sebastein Giguere with a wrist shot. Ilya Bryzgalov then stopped Anaheim’s Ryan Getzlaf and Brandon Bochenski to win it.
Ryan Getzlaf scored 2:30 into the game, and Phoenix tied it at 1 when Shane Doan converted Mueller’s centering pass at 1:46 of the second. The Ducks regained the lead 37 seconds later when Chris Kunitz’s shot from the left point was deflected in by Doug Weight at 2:23.
The Coyotes made it 2-2 on Steven Reinprecht’s power-play goal at 13:27 of the second.
Flames 6, Kings 4
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Kristian Huselius and Daymond Langkow scored the tying and go-ahead goals on power plays less than two minutes apart in the third period, and Jarome Iginla had a goal and two assists for Calgary.
Robyn Regehr and Daymond Langkow scored 62 seconds apart early in the first period, helping the Flames beat Los Angeles for the fifth straight time. Calgary has won 11 of 14 overall and eight of nine on the road.
Brad Stuart, Ladislav Nagy and Anze Kopitar scored third-period goals, and Alexander Frolov also found the net for Los Angeles, which has lost 10 of 13. The Kings’ 15 wins are their fewest after 43 games since they had 13 during the lockout-shortened 1994-95 campaign.
Avalanche 2, Islanders 1, OT
DENVER (AP) – Marek Svatos gathered a loose puck in front of the net and backhanded a shot past Rick DiPietro 2:05 into overtime, helping Colorado snap a four-game losing streak.
DiPietro, wearing his new bright-white pads, turned aside 37 shots, including numerous point-blank opportunities by Colorado early in the game. Jose Theodore finished with 23 saves.
Tim Jackman scored his first early in the opening period when he got to a loose puck and beat Theodore with a shot over the right shoulder. Jordan Leopold tied it at 1 after sneaking a shot past DiPietro with 31.6 seconds remaining in the second period.
Predators 4, Wild 1
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – J.P. Dumont and Dan Hamhuis each had a goal and an assist to lead Nashville, which scored three first-period goals for the second game in a row.
Dumont stretched his goal streak to a career-high four games, and Martin Gelinas and Martin Erat also scored for Nashville. Dan Ellis stopped 27 shots for his fourth consecutive victory.
Alexander Radulov added a pair of assists for Nashville, extending his point streak to six games. He has five goals and four assists during the spurt.
Mark Parrish had the only goal for the Wild, but by then the score was already 3-0.
Bruins 4, Devils 3
BOSTON (AP) – P.J. Axelsson had a goal and two assists, Marco Sturm scored a short-handed goal with 0.6 seconds left in the first period and Boston beat New Jersey.
Dennis Wideman and Marc Savard also scored for the Bruins, who netted goals in the final minute of the opening two periods en route to their third straight win.
Dainius Zubrus, Johnny Oduya and Travis Zajac had New Jersey’s goals. The Devils gave top goalie Martin Brodeur a game off one night after he shut out Philadelphia.
Boston’s Tim Thomas had a scoreless streak halted at 111 minutes, 8 seconds early in the opening period, but finished with 42 saves.
Blues 1, Hurricanes 0
ST. LOUIS (AP) – Lee Stempniak scored his 50th NHL goal in the first period and Manny Legace made 26 saves to make it stand up for St. Louis.
Legace’s 21st shutout, third this season, helped the Blues snap their four-game losing streak at home (0-2-2). Legace has eight shutouts with St. Louis after posting 13 with Detroit.
Stempniak scored his ninth of the season 12:49 into the game with a quick redirection from the slot between Michael Leighton’s pads off a feed from Jay McKee.
Oilers 3, Rangers 2, SO
EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) – Sam Gagner scored his fourth shootout winner of the season, and Edmonton earned its NHL-best 11th shootout victory of the season by beating New York.
Jarret Stoll and Shawn Horcoff scored in regulation for the Oilers, and Dan Girardi and Chris Drury had New York’s goals. Drury’s power-play score with 6.2 seconds left tied it.
It was only the second win in nine games for the Oilers, who started a five game homestand.
It was the third loss in a row for the Rangers, who went 0-2-1 on their trip to Western Canada. They are winless in seven games against the Western Conference this season.
Capitals 5, Canadiens 4, OT
MONTREAL (AP) – Mike Green scored 1:27 into overtime for his third point of the game to lead Washington to its third win in four games.
Green, who also had two assists, redirected a pass from Michael Nylander past Carey Price for his 11th goal. Alexander Ovechkin had two goals and Nicklas Backstrom and Boyd Gordon also scored for the Capitals.
Tomas Plekanec and Andrei Kostitsyn scored to give Montreal a 2-0 lead early in the second, but Washington rallied to take the lead with 1:09 left in the period. Roman Hamrlik and Alexei Kovalev also scored for the Canadiens.
Senators 4, Lightning 3, OT
OTTAWA (AP) – Mike Fisher scored 3:17 into overtime to help Ottawa extend Tampa Bay’s losing streak to a season-high seven games.
Fisher put a shot from the left side past Johan Holmqvist for his 15th goal, giving Ottawa its second straight win following consecutive losses to Washington. The Lightning are 0-5-2 since defeating Toronto at home on Dec. 20.
Dany Heatley scored his 25th goal 4:26 into the third period to get the Senators even at 3.
Randy Robitaille scored twice for the Senators, who won 5-3 in Buffalo on Friday.
Ray Emery made his second straight start and stopped 16 shots.
Penguins 3, Panthers 0
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Ty Conklin made 35 saves for his second shutout and seventh victory in seven starts this season, helping Pittsburgh win its sixth in a row.
Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin each had a goal and an assist, and Tyler Kennedy also scored an early goal for the Penguins, who are 15-5 in their past 20. Florida has lost four of five.
Kennedy gave Pittsburgh all the offense it would need by scoring his eighth of the season 4:26 into the contest. The goal tied Kennedy for fourth among NHL rookies.
Less than 2 minutes later, Malkin scored his team-high 19th of the season. Crosby’s goal came with only 2:41 left.
