COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -Nikolai Zherdev scored twice in the last 6 minutes – one on a highlight-reel move that provided the go-ahead goal – and the Columbus Blue Jackets earned some payback for a bad loss three days earlier, beating the St. Louis Blues 6-4 on Friday night.
With the score tied 3-all, Zherdev swooped into the offensive zone and passed the puck to himself backward between his legs before wristing a shot from the high slot that got by goaltender Hannu Toivonen at the 5:57 mark.
Columbus’ Jason Chimera ended a 25-game scoring drought, and Dan Fritsche, Ron Hainsey and Rick Nash also had goals for the Blue Jackets, who had lost their last two games, won their fourth in a row at home.
David Backes, Brad Boyes, Andy McDonald and Jay McClement had goals for the Blues. The Blues had a three-game winning streak and six-game points streak come to an end a night after beating Dallas 4-2 at home.
Wild 5, Blackhawks 2
CHICAGO (AP) – Josh Harding made 41 saves, Marian Gaborik scored two goals and Minnesota handed the Blackhawks their eighth straight loss.
Matt Foy, Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Mark Parrish also scored for Minnesota, which won its second straight despite being outshot 43-16. The Wild’s Eric Belanger had two assists.
Brent Sopel and Martin Havlat scored for injury-depleted Chicago, which is 0-6-2 during its skid. Sopel connected in his first game – and second shift – after missing seven contests with a broken finger.
Minnesota has won nine consecutive games against Chicago. The Blackhawks last defeated the Wild on Oct. 23, 2005, and are 0-6-3 against Minnesota during the streak.
Chicago’s Nikolai Khabibulin made only 11 saves.
Islanders 5, Flames 4, SO
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) – Mike Sillinger scored twice in regulation and added another in the shootout, leading New York to a win.
In the shootout, Kristian Huselius led off and scored to put the Flames ahead 1-0. Sillinger answered back with a goal. Rick DiPietro stopped Jarome Iginla, then Richard Park scored on a deke to put the Islanders up. DiPietro ended it with a save on Owen Nolan’s attempt.
It was another busy night for DiPietro. He faced 42 shots – a season high for Calgary. In the first four games of the Islanders’ five-game road trip, DiPietro has faced an average of 39.5 shots.
Trent Hunter and Ruslan Fedotenko also scored for New York, which has lost just twice in regulation in the past 11 games (6-2-3).
Nolan scored two goals, and Craig Conroy and Dustin Boyd also scored for Calgary.
Coyotes 4, Canucks 3
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) – Keith Yandle and Ed Jovanovski scored 16 seconds apart on two-man avdantages in the second period and Phoenix handed the Canucks their first home loss in regulation since Nov. 1.
Rookie Peter Mueller and Niko Kapanen also scored for the Coyotes.
Taylor Pyatt had two goals and Ryan Kesler score short-handed for the Canucks, who were 12-0-2 in their previoust 14 games at GM Place.
