NEW YORK (AP) -Chuck Kobasew had a goal and an assist, leading the Boston Bruins to a sleepy 3-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Sunday and a sweep of the key home-and-home weekend series.
Kobasew scored in the first period, after netting two goals Saturday in Boston, and set up Glen Metropolit in the third for the Bruins, who moved three points ahead of the Rangers in the Eastern Conference playoff race with two games in hand.
Tim Thomas followed his 25-save effort in Saturday’s shootout win by stopping 30 in the rematch. The Bruins managed only 20 shots on Henrik Lundqvist, concentrating on a simple, defensive-minded approach after grabbing the early lead.
Phil Kessel made it 3-0 with his 12th goal with 2:59 remaining, and Brandon Dubinsky spoiled Thomas’ shutout bid with 43.6 seconds left.
Stars 5, Ducks 2
DALLAS (AP) – Brenden Morrow and Niklas Hagman scored two goals each to help Dallas end Anaheim’s six-game winning streak.
Stephan Robidas had a rare goal on a first-period power play, and Marty Turco made 18 saves to help the Stars move past the Ducks and into first place in the Pacific Division.
The Stars are 5-2-1 in their last eight games, and 4-1 against the Ducks this season.
Mathieu Schneider’s power-play goal at 8:45 of the third period ended Turco’s bid for his 32nd career shutout. Ryan Getzlaf also scored for Anaheim, which had been unbeaten in regulation (8-0-1) since the start of the new year.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) – John Madden scored two goals and Martin Brodeur made 34 saves, helping New Jersey end a two-game losing streak on its home ice.
Travis Zajac also scored for the Devils, who handed Toronto its first loss in three games.
Darcy Tucker and Pavel Kubina scored a pair of third-period goals for Toronto, breaking up Brodeur’s shutout bid.
The Prudential Center showed the competing NFC championship game between the Giants and Packers on televisions throughout the arena. Fans were invited to remain after the hockey game to watch the remainder of the football game on the center-ice scoreboard screens.
Oilers 4, Thrashers 2
ATLANTA (AP) – Sam Gagner scored his fourth goal, all in road games, to help Edmonton snap a three-game losing streak.
The 18-year-old Gagner, the youngest player in the league, gave the Oilers a 2-1 lead late in the second period, only 1:06 after Slava Kozlov scored a tying goal for the Thrashers.
Tom Gilbert and Robert Nilsson added third-period goals for Edmonton to put the game away.
Dwayne Roloson stopped 29 shots for the Oilers. The Thrashers’ Kari Lehtonen made 20 saves.
