DETROIT (AP) -The NHL-leading Detroit Red Wings blew a chance to match the longest winning streak in their storied history.
They did it against the lowly Los Angeles Kings, too.
Brad Stuart scored the go-ahead goal at 13:07 of the third period and Los Angeles rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat Detroit 5-3 on Thursday night.
The Red Wings had a chance to win their ninth straight game, equaling a franchise record. They seemed to be set up to do it when Henrik Zetterberg scored his second goal to put them ahead 3-1 at 13:05 of the second.
But Los Angeles scored on four of its first eight shots in the third against Chris Osgood, who started the game with an NHL-best 1.84 goals-against average.
Osgood finished with 20 saves and matched a season high by allowing five goals.
Jason LaBarbera had 26 stops for the Kings, who hadn’t won in Detroit since Feb. 18, 2000. Los Angeles entered the game with an NHL-low 47 points.
Senators 5, Panthers 4
lead Ottawa to the win.
Christoph Schubert, Joe Corvo and Chris Phillips also scored for the Senators, who went 3-8-0 with Heatley out with a separated shoulder. Jason Spezza had three assists and Wade Redden finished with two.
David Booth, Nathan Horton, Brett McLean and Olli Jokinen scored for the Panthers, who had won three straight.
Heatley’s second goal of the game put Ottawa in front 5-4 at 7:26 of the third period.
Penguins 4, Islanders 3
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Ryan Whitney had two goals, Kris Letang scored the game-winner with 3:39 to play and Pittsburgh handed the Islanders their sixth consecutive loss.
Evgeni Malkin had three assists and Ryan Malone also scored for the Penguins, who have gained at least a point in four of their past five and tied Philadelphia for first place in the Atlantic Division.
Mike Comrie had two goals and Frederick Meyer two assists for the Islanders, who scored more than two goals for the first time in six games.
Skating down the right boards, Letang flipped a wrist shot that appeared to deflect off a defenseman’s stick and went over Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro’s left shoulder.
Ducks 4, Rangers 1
NEW YORK (AP) – Anaheim’s Corey Perry and Chris Kunitz scored 1:27 apart to break open a tight game in the second period.

Mathieu Schneider staked the Ducks to a lead in the first, before Ryan Callahan tied it for the Rangers, who dropped their second straight home game to a team from Southern California.
Los Angeles topped New York 4-2 on Tuesday, and the Rangers are winless against the Western Conference this season (0-7-2). They got 33 shots at Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who came in off a pair of shutouts, but couldn’t make them count.
Anaheim is 2-3-1 on its club-record, nine-game trip that continues Friday in New Jersey.
Stars 1, Wild 0
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Mike Smith stopped 25 shots and Niklas Hagman scored early in the third period for the Stars.
Dallas has won five straight overall, and five straight on the road.
Minnesota lost its second straight.
Hagman scored his second goal in three games when he took a pass in the left circle from Loui Eriksson, fought off a check from Martin Skoula, cut across the crease and put a backhand past Niklas Backstrom at 3:11 of the final period.
It was the second shutout of the year for Smith, who started for the first time in six games.
Dallas, 9-2-1 in its past 12 against the Wild, was 0-for-6 on the power play.
Canucks 2, Thrashers 1
ATLANTA (AP) – Alex Burrows’ goal midway through the third period completed a rare third-period rally for Vancouver.
14 into the third period came after contact between teammate Ryan Kesler and Atlanta’s Eric Perrin in front of the goal that led to Perrin’s stick apparently knocking goalie Kari Lehtonen off his feet. Lehtonen was sitting on his backside in front of the net and was unable to defend Burrows’ shot.
Daniel Sedin scored on a power play for Vancouver early in the third period after a second-period goal by Pascal Dupuis gave the Thrashers a 1-0 lead.
The Canucks had been 1-19-1 this season when trailing after two periods.
Roberto Luongo stopped 26 shots for Vancouver, which ended a streak of four straight losses by one goal.
Maple Leafs 4, Canadiens 2
MONTREAL (AP) – Darcy Tucker scored his second goal of the game into an empty net and Vesa Toskala made 34 saves for Toronto.
Kris Newbury and Kyle Wellwood also scored for the Maple Leafs, who had lost four of five (1-3-1).
Tomas Plekanec scored his 20th goal to tie his career high and Alex Kovalev got his 25th for Montreal.
Tucker, who got his eighth goal with 29 seconds remaining to put the game away, scored 1:24 into the second to give Toronto its first lead at 2-1. Wellwood made it 3-1 with a power-play goal late in the period.
Lightning 2, Predators 1, OT
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Vaclav Prospal scored at 58 seconds of overtime to give the Lightning the win.
The win was Tampa Bay’s sixth straight road victory after starting off the season 3-14-3 away from the St. Pete Times Forum.
On the game-winner, Brad Richards fired a slap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that was stopped by Nashville goalie Dan Ellis. Prospal was standing just to the right of Ellis, and was able to send the rebound between the goalie’s pads for his 23rd goal of the season.
Alexander Radulov scored in the first for Nashville, and Richards tied it in the second.
Blue Jackets 2, Coyotes 1
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Jason Chimera and Nikolai Zherdev scored early in the first period to lead Columbus to the victory.
The win was the Blue Jackets’ third straight over Phoenix and moved Columbus to within one point of Phoenix in the race for a playoff spot.
The Coyotes had an opportunity to tie in the closing seconds. The Jackets’ Jared Bolt went off for holding with 1:32 remaining in the final period, but Phoenix could not score.
Fredrik Norrena stopped 26 shots for his seventh victory of the season.
Mike York scored a power-play goal in the second for Phoenix.
Blackhawks 3, Flames 1
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) – Nikolai Khabibulin made 26 saves to improve to 19-5-2 against Calgary, his highest win total against any NHL opponent.
Khabibulin was busiest in the third period, when the Flames outshot Chicago 12-6 but couldn’t get the tying goal.
a scramble in the crease but Khabibulin stuck out his arm and swept the puck off the goal line.
Khabibulin also was Tampa Bay’s goalie in 2004 when the Lightning defeated the Flames in the Stanley Cup finals.
Duncan Keith, Patrick Sharp, and Yanic Perreault, with an empty-netter, scored for Chicago.
Adrian Aucoin scored for Calgary.
