UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -Trent Hunter scored a goal and set up two others for the New York Islanders, who broke a pair of skids with a 4-3 victory over the slumping Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.
New York hadn’t won at home in seven games, since beating New Jersey on Dec. 29 (0-5-2). The Islanders also didn’t have a victory anywhere since a 6-3 win at Carolina on Jan. 22, also a span of seven games (0-6-1).
Hunter scored for the first time in a month, and Jeff Tambellini and Sean Bergenheim added goals in the second period for the Islanders, who are tied for 12th in the Eastern Conference, and beat the Flyers for the first time in four meetings this season.
Rick DiPietro made 26 saves to win for the first time since Jan. 16 and send the injury-riddled Flyers to their fourth straight regulation loss.
Hurricanes 3, Bruins 2
BOSTON (AP) – Andrew Ladd scored twice in the first 6:33, and the Carolina Hurricanes held on after Shawn Thornton had two goals in a 27-second span late in the third period.
nd draft choice Sergei Samsonov had a goal and an assist to help the Hurricanes open a 3-0 lead with 1:31 left in the second.
Cam Ward protected the shutout until Thornton’s shot from the right side went off the top of his glove and into the net with 5:10 left in the game. The Bruins made it 3-2 with 4:43 left when Thornton swatted an idle puck into the net.
Boston made a furious charge in the last four minutes, pulling goalie Alex Auld but failing to get the tying goal.
Lightning 3, Canadiens 2
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Vinny Prospal scored twice, including the go-ahead goal midway through the third for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Prospal made it 3-2 at 11:51 of the third off a pass from Vincent Lecavalier, who stole the puck behind the Montreal net. The goal was Prospal’s 25th of the season, which equals his career high, set during the 2005-06 season.
Michel Ouellet also scored, and Lecavalier had two assists for the Lightning, who have won four of six.
Christopher Higgins and Tomas Plekanec scored for Montreal, which has lost three in a row. The Canadiens were outshot 36-21.
Sabres 5, Senators 1
OTTAWA (AP) – Thomas Vanek scored three times for his first career hat trick, leading the Buffalo Sabres over the Ottawa Senators.

Clark MacArthur and Jason Pominville each had a goal and an assist in the third for the Sabres, who climbed back into the Eastern Conference playoff race by earning 16 of a possible 18 points while going undefeated through regulation in nine straight games.
Ryan Miller made 25 saves for Buffalo, which is 7-0-2 since Jan. 21, when a 6-2 loss in Phoenix dropped them to the conference’s lower ranks with a 20-21-6 record.
Predators 4, Red Wings 2
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Alexander Radulov scored two goals to lead the Nashville Predators. Martin Erat and J.P. Dumont scored for the Predators, who sent the Red Wings to their fourth straight loss.
Johan Franzen and Pavel Datsyuk scored for Detroit, which still leads the NHL with 87 points.
The Predators struck quickly with three first-period goals on four shots. The third goal, at 8:49 by Dumont, sent Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood to the bench.
Blues 4, Kings 2
ST. LOUIS (AP) – Low-scoring defenseman Jay McKee got the go-ahead goal off an aggressive play midway through the third period in the St. Louis Blues’ slump-busting victory.
Martin Rucinsky and Jay McClement also had a goal and an assist for the Blues, who ended a four-game losing streak and won for only the third time in 14 games. The Blues have won five straight against the Kings.
Alexander Frolov and Dustin Brown scored for the Kings, who wound up a 4-3-1 trip necessitated by the Grammy Awards kicking them out of the Staples Center for nearly a month.
The Kings last played at home on Jan. 12 and they return Friday to play the Flames after the best eight-game trip, which produced nine points, in franchise history.
