UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -Trent Hunter scored a goal and set up two others for the New York Islanders, who broke a pair of skids with a 4-3 victory over the slumping Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night.
New York hadn’t won at home in seven games, since beating New Jersey on Dec. 29 (0-5-2). The Islanders also didn’t have a victory anywhere since a 6-3 win at Carolina on Jan. 22, also a span of seven games (0-6-1).
Hunter scored for the first time in a month, and Jeff Tambellini and Sean Bergenheim added goals in the second period for the Islanders, who are tied for 12th in the Eastern Conference, and beat the Flyers for the first time in four meetings this season.
Rick DiPietro made 26 saves to win for the first time since Jan. 16 and send the injury-riddled Flyers to their fourth straight regulation loss.
Hurricanes 3, Bruins 2
BOSTON (AP) – Andrew Ladd scored twice in the first 6:33, and the Carolina Hurricanes held on after Shawn Thornton had two goals in a 27-second span late in the third period.

Cam Ward protected the shutout until Thornton’s shot from the right side went off the top of his glove and into the net with 5:10 left in the game. The Bruins made it 3-2 with 4:43 left when Thornton swatted an idle puck into the net.
Boston made a furious charge in the last four minutes, pulling goalie Alex Auld but failing to get the tying goal.
Lightning 3, Canadiens 2
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Vinny Prospal scored twice, including the go-ahead goal midway through the third for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Prospal made it 3-2 at 11:51 of the third off a pass from Vincent Lecavalier, who stole the puck behind the Montreal net. The goal was Prospal’s 25th of the season, which equals his career high, set during the 2005-06 season.
Michel Ouellet also scored, and Lecavalier had two assists for the Lightning, who have won four of six.
Christopher Higgins and Tomas Plekanec scored for Montreal, which has lost three in a row. The Canadiens were outshot 36-21.
Sabres 5, Senators 1
OTTAWA (AP) – Thomas Vanek scored three times for his first career hat trick, leading the Buffalo Sabres over the Ottawa Senators.
Vanek opened the scoring in the second and added two goals in the third, including his 20th of the season on a five-on-three with 3:58 remaining for his first three-goal game.
Clark MacArthur and Jason Pominville each had a goal and an assist in the third for the Sabres, who climbed back into the Eastern Conference playoff race by earning 16 of a possible 18 points while going undefeated through regulation in nine straight games.
Ryan Miller made 25 saves for Buffalo, which is 7-0-2 since Jan. 21, when a 6-2 loss in Phoenix dropped them to the conference’s lower ranks with a 20-21-6 record.
Predators 4, Red Wings 2
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Alexander Radulov scored two goals to lead the Nashville Predators. Martin Erat and J.P. Dumont scored for the Predators, who sent the Red Wings to their fourth straight loss.
Johan Franzen and Pavel Datsyuk scored for Detroit, which still leads the NHL with 87 points.
The Predators struck quickly with three first-period goals on four shots. The third goal, at 8:49 by Dumont, sent Detroit goaltender Chris Osgood to the bench.
Blues 4, Kings 2
ST. LOUIS (AP) – Low-scoring defenseman Jay McKee got the go-ahead goal off an aggressive play midway through the third period in the St. Louis Blues’ slump-busting victory.
Martin Rucinsky and Jay McClement also had a goal and an assist for the Blues, who ended a four-game losing streak and won for only the third time in 14 games. The Blues have won five straight against the Kings.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) – Kyle Brodziak scored twice and Mathieu Garon made 38 saves as the Edmonton Oilers continued their playoff push.
Fernando Pisani and Jarret Stoll also scored for Edmonton, which has won three of its last four. The Oilers began the night in 13th place in the Western Conference, nine points behind the eighth-place Calgary Flames.
Pavol Demitra and Brian Rolston scored for Minnesota, which had its two-game winning streak end but still leads the Northwest Division.
Ducks 2, Avalanche 1
DENVER (AP) – Samuel Pahlsson rammed in a rebound with 4:21 remaining in the third period, Teemu Selanne added his first goal of the season and the Anaheim Ducks won their fifth straight.
The Ducks also broke a string of six straight regular-season losses at the Pepsi Center, spanning more than five years.
Anaheim concluded its franchise-record nine straight road games on a winning note. The Ducks went 5-3-1 on the road swing, which was briefly interrupted by the All-Star game.
Flames 4, Sharks 3, OT
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) – Dion Phaneuf scored Calgary’s tying goal during a two-man advantage with 49.8 seconds left in regulation, and Jarome Iginla got the overtime winner with 24.9 seconds to play.
Daymond Langkow and Mark Smith scored for the Flames, who opened a five-game road trip against every team in the tough Pacific Division with an impressive comeback win despite a huge shot deficit.
San Jose outshot Calgary 43-18, but goalie Miikka Kiprusoff made 40 saves to steal what would have been former teammate Evgeni Nabokov’s NHL-best 32nd victory.
