NEW YORK (AP) -Sean Avery scored the first of his two goals 10 seconds in, and Brandon Dubinsky had a goal and two assists for the New York Rangers, who chased goalie Ryan Miller in the first period and routed the Buffalo Sabres 5-1 on Saturday.
Henrik Lundqvist, in his first game since signing a six-year, $41.25 million deal with the Rangers, made 29 saves.
Thomas Vanek’s power-play goal spoiled Lundqvist’s shutout bid with 6:58 remaining.
Avery, Ryan Callahan, Dubinsky and Brendan Shanahan did the damage for New York, which leaped over Buffalo in the tight Eastern Conference playoff race by winning for the seventh time in 11 games (7-3-1).
