BOSTON (AP) -Marco Sturm scored the second of Boston’s two 5-on-3 power-play goals late in the third period to lift the Bruins to a 2-1 win over the Washington Capitals on Saturday.
Donald Brashear got a double-minor for high-sticking and another penalty for roughing on the same play. John Erskine was called for hooking 1:13 later and Tom Poti was sent off for slashing in the final 6:41 to set up an extended two-man advantage.
Boston tied it on Zdeno Chara’s goal with 5:01 to play, and Sturm’s winner came with 2:16 remaining to snap the Bruins’ three-game losing streak.
The Capitals grabbed a 1-0 lead when Brooks Laich scored 6:17 into the game.
Canadiens 5, Kings 2
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Patrice Brisebois triggered a three-goal second period for Montreal, and Jaroslav Halak made 35 saves in his first start of the season to lift the Canadiens over Los Angeles.
Andrei Kostitsyn and Guillaume Latendresse also scored and captain Saku Koivu connected on a power play for the Canadiens, 9-3 since a season-worst three-game losing streak. Tom Kostopoulos scored into an empty net with 1:53 to play.
Anze Kopitar and Rob Blake scored for the Kings.
Avalanche 3, Stars 1
DENVER (AP) – Peter Forsberg posted his first two points since rejoining the Avalanche, Andrew Brunette had a goal and an assist, and Colorado won its sixth straight by beating stumbling Dallas.
Jose Theodore stopped 25 shots for his sixth consecutive win, his longest run since late in the 2002 season when he won the Hart Trophy. The Stars have dropped three in a row after winning four straight.
Hurricanes 4, Sabres 3, OT
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Scott Walker deflected in a shot from Eric Staal in overtime and Carolina took a seven-point lead in the Southeast Division over Washington.
Sergei Samsonov, Keith Aucoin and Tim Gleason also scored for the Hurricanes, who won for the seventh time in eight games. Toni Lydman scored the tying goal for Buffalo in the third period.
Devils 2, Maple Leafs 1
TORONTO (AP) – Martin Brodeur made 42 saves, and Zach Parise scored with 48.3 seconds left to give New Jersey a victory over Toronto and keep the Devils atop the Eastern Conference.
Parise has five goals in three games – all Devils victories. He also scored twice in New Jersey’s 4-1 win at Toronto on Tuesday that snapped the Devils’ three-game skid (0-2-1).
Brodeur stopped 141 of 147 shots during four victories over the Maple Leafs this season, including both this week.
Mats Sundin scored for the Maple Leafs.
Flyers 4, Islanders 1
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Scott Hartnell two of Philadelphia’s four power-play goals, leading the Flyers over the New York Islanders.
Danny Briere and Jeff Carter had goals, and Kimmo Timonen got three assists for the Flyers, 5-1-1 since losing 10 straight.
Freddy Meyer scored the lone goal for the Islanders, 2-6 since winning six in a row. New York trails eighth-place Philadelphia by seven points with 12 games remaining.
Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro stopped 23 shots in his first game since missing three following the death of his grandmother.
Martin Biron stopped 32 shots for Philadelphia.
Panthers 3, Thrashers 2, OT
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) – Nathan Horton scored a power-play goal 4:36 into overtime, pushing Florida past Atlanta.
Brett McLean added two power-play goals for Florida, which matched a season high with its fourth straight win.
Bryan Little and Ilya Kovalchuk scored power-play goals for Atlanta, which snapped a nine-game losing streak Friday with a shootout victory over Minnesota.
Senators 4, Coyotes 2
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) – Mike Fisher had two goals and Ottawa snapped a three-game winless streak, adding to Phoenix’s home woes.
The Coyotes blew a 2-1 second-period lead and dropped their third straight at home. They remained five points behind Colorado and Nashville for the final playoff spots in the Western Conference.
Phoenix is 14-17-3 at home this season but 20-13-2 on the road.
Dany Heatley scored the go-ahead goal, his 32nd of the season, on a power play 1:33 into the third period, then Antoine Vermette’s rebound goal made it 4-2 at 9:59 for Ottawa.
Rookies Craig Weller and Peter Mueller scored in a 1:31 span of the second period to give the Coyotes their lead.
Canucks 4, Blues 2
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) – Brad Isbister scored with 4:12 left in the third period to lift the Canucks to a come-from-behind victory.
Alex Burrows, who tied the game 2-all on a breakaway late in the second period, worked a give-and-go with Ryan Kesler out of the corner to get alone in the slot, drawing both Blues defenders before slipping a backhand pass to Isbister for a shot on an open net.
Roberto Luongo finished with 23 saves to record his 30th win of the season for a second-straight season with the Canucks, and just the third time in his career.
