PITTSBURGH (AP) -Evgeni Malkin and Petr Sykora each had two goals and two assists, and the Pittsburgh Penguins again had plenty of offense even without the injured Sidney Crosby, beating the slumping Philadelphia Flyers 7-1 Sunday.
Sykora set up both of Malkin’s goals, and the Penguins scored seven for the second successive game to win their fifth in six games and move one point behind idle New Jersey, which leads the Eastern Conference and Atlantic Division.
Marian Hossa and Hal Gill also scored their first goals since being traded to Pittsburgh last month.
The Flyers, the eighth-place team in the East, have lost four in a row (0-2-2) and six of eight (2-3-3).
Capitals 2, Bruins 1, SO
WASHINGTON (AP) – Alexander Semin and Viktor Kozlov scored shootout goals to lift Washington.
Sergei Fedorov scored Washington’s lone goal in regulation. Chuck Kobasew tied it for the Bruins in the second period.
Cristobal Huet saved a shot by Kobasew in the shootout and Phil Kessel missed wide left for the Bruins. Auld stopped Alex Ovechkin before Kozlov won it in the third round.
With the overtime point, the Bruins moved into a sixth-place tie with the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference. Washington is two spots and two points behind eighth-place Philadelphia and the postseason cutoff.
Flames 4, Blackhawks 2
CHICAGO (AP) – Jarome Iginla, Kristian Huselius and Dion Phaneuf scored second-period goals, and Miikka Kiprusoff made 34 saves for Calgary.
Adrian Aucoin also scored for the Flames, who climbed into a three-way tie with idle Minnesota and Colorado for first place in the Northwest Division at 84 points.
Calgary’s Owen Nolan and Alex Tanguay each had two assists.
Robert Lang and rookie Jonathan Toews each scored their 20th goals for the Blackhawks, who lost for the fifth time in six games (1-4-1).
Hurricanes 5, Senators 1
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Joe Corvo scored a career-high three goals against his former team, Cam Ward stopped 16 shots and Carolina bounced back from its worst loss of the season to beat Ottawa.
Patrick Eaves, acquired with Corvo last month, scored his first goal since the trade to help the Hurricanes improve to 13-4-1 in their past 18 games. Scott Walker also scored for Carolina, which lost 7-1 at Buffalo on Friday.
Dany Heatley scored for the Senators with a two-man advantage about 3 minutes into the game.
Blue Jackets 4, Red Wings 3
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Manny Malhotra had two goals and a career-high three points, and Columbus held off Detroit to set a franchise record with 75 points.
Fredrik Norrena made 43 saves in place of No. 1 goalie Pascal Leclaire, who sat out with flu symptoms, and won for the first time since Feb. 7.
Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and Nikolai Zherdev also scored for the Blue Jackets, who recorded only 17 shots but beat Detroit for the third straight time. Rick Nash added two assists for Columbus, having the best of its seven NHL seasons.
Johan Franzen scored twice, including a goal with 2:02 remaining to cut Detroit’s deficit to 4-3.
Panthers 3, Thrashers 1
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) – Olli Jokinen and Rostislav Olesz scored power-play goals and Florida tied a franchise record with its seventh consecutive victory.
Radek Dvorak added a goal for the Panthers, who haven’t lost since they were beaten by Minnesota 3-2 on Feb. 29. Florida also won seven in a row in the 1995-96 and 2005-06 seasons.
Jokinen added an assist, and Brett McLean extended his point streak to six games with two assists. He has four goals and six assists during the run.
The Panthers are only two points behind eighth-place Philadelphia and the postseason cutoff in the Eastern Conference.
Ilya Kovalchuk scored for Atlanta, which has lost nine straight on the road and 12 of 14 overall. Atlanta outshot Florida 30-25, the first time in 24 games the Thrashers held an edge.
