PITTSBURGH (AP) -Joffrey Lupul and Jeff Carter scored on two of Philadelphia’s first three shots and the Flyers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 on Wednesday night, their first victory in two seasons against their division rival.
The Flyers went 0-8 against the Penguins last season, the first time in club history they have lost that many games in a season to a single opponent. They hadn’t won in Pittsburgh in five games since Jan. 21, 2006.
Mike Richards also scored for the Flyers, who scored twice in slightly more than 5 1/2 minutes against Penguins backup goaltender Dany Sabourin.
The Penguins, who scored five goals or more five times against the Flyers last season, got back into the game when Ryan Malone scored in the final minute of the period.
Flyers goalie Martin Biron made 26 saves in improving to 8-4. He has all but one Flyers victory.
Sabres 2, Bruins 1, OT
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – Clarke MacArthur scored 3:16 into overtime, and Ryan Miller made 25 saves to give Buffalo the win.
Cruising in the high slot, MacArthur one-timed Drew Stafford’s pass from the left boards past goalie Tim Thomas for the win.
Ales Kotalik also scored for Buffalo, which snapped a three-game losing streak.
Marc Savard scored for the Bruins, who lost for the third straight time. Boston has lost eight of its last nine in Buffalo.
Lightning 3, Panthers 1
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – Martin St. Louis and Jan Hlavac scored first-period goals and Johan Holmqvist stopped 22 shots to help the Lightning snap a six-game losing streak.
Two nights after losing 4-3 at Florida, the Lightning tied the season series between the intrastate rivals at two games apiece. The home team has won each of the meetings.
Hlavac scored his second goal of the year less than 2 minutes into the game. St. Louis added his fourth, with an assist from Vincent Lecavalier, less than 5 minutes later for a 2-0 lead.
Kamil Kreps scored in the second period for the Panthers, and Tomas Vokoun finished with 31 saves.
Lecavalier scored an empty-net goal with just under a minute to go to make it 3-1.
Red Wings 3, Predators 2, SO
DETROIT (AP) – Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg scored shootout goals to give its eighth straight win.
Detroit came back to win after blowing a 2-0 lead late in the third period.
Jiri Hudler had a goal and an assist in regulation for Detroit, and Dan Cleary got the other goal. Chris Osgood made 28 saves.
Alexander Radulov and J.P. Dumont were both unsuccessful for the Predators.
Ryan Suter, and Dumont scored for Nashville, and Radulov had two assists. Chris Mason stopped 43 shots.
Blackhawks 5, Blue Jackets 2
CHICAGO (AP) – Jonathan Toews, Brent Seabrook and Duncan Keith scored during a decisive stretch in the third period, and Chicago rallied to beat Columbus.
James Wisniewski and Patrick Sharp also scored for the Blackhawks, who handed Columbus its first regulation loss in seven games.
Rostislav Klesla and Nikolai Zherdev scored Columbus’ goals 1:25 apart early in the third period to make it 2-1.
Patrick Lalime stopped 24 shots for Chicago and Toews, a rookie, added an assist for his first multipoint game.
Fredrik Norrena made 30 saves for Columbus.
