PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Scottie Upshall scored twice to lead Philadelphia to a 3-2 win over the New York Islanders on Monday night and help the Flyers remain undefeated at home (6-0).
The Flyers won at home against the Islanders for the second time this season after dropping all four games against New York in Philadelphia last season.
Mike Richards scored the go-ahead goal for the Flyers in the third period. Martin Biron played a pivotal part in the perfection and was sharp again in making 24 saves.
Mike Sillinger and Chris Simon scored for the Islanders.
Predators 4, Blue Jackets 1
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – J.P. Dumont had two goals and an assist, and Nashville beat Columbus for the 10th consecutive time, and second in three days.
Martin Erat tallied twice – including an empty netter – and had two assists to record a career-high four points for Nashville, which has won seven of nine following a six-game losing streak. The Predators have earned a point in six straight games and eight of nine. Jason Arnott added two assists.
David Vyborny scored the lone goal for Columbus. After an 8-3-2 start, the Blue Jackets have hit their first slump of the season – all losses against divisional opponents – and have only one win in six.
Chris Mason had 29 saves for Nashville. Pascal Leclaire stopped 27 shots for Columbus.
Devils 3, Penguins 2
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Patrik Elias ended an 11-game slump without a goal exactly when New Jersey needed him to, scoring with 5 1/2 minutes remaining as the Devils couldn’t hold a two-goal lead but came back to beat slumping Pittsburgh.
Despite goals by Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, the Penguins lost their fourth in a row and sixth in seven games to fall behind New Jersey and into last place in the Atlantic Division.
Zach Parise also scored for New Jersey and set up Travis Zajac’s goal during the Devils’ two-goal first period against Dany Sabourin, who turned aside only 18 shots as coach Michel Therrien again benched inconsistent starter Marc-Andre Fleury.
Kevin Weekes won his second in three decisions for New Jersey as Martin Brodeur, one victory away from becoming only the second NHL goalie to win 500 games, was held out before the Devils return home to play twice.
Hurricanes 4, Panthers 3
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) – Cory Stillman scored his second goal of the game with 1:09 left to lift Carolina over Florida shortly after fellow Hurricanes forward Erik Cole was removed from the ice on a stretcher.
Cole was wheeled off with under 8 minutes remaining in the third period after he collided with Florida goaltender Tomas Vokoun.
Stillman netted the winner when his backhanded pass from behind the net hit Vokoun’s pad and Florida defenseman Steve Montador’s stick and found its way into the net.
That was enough to earn Carolina coach Peter Laviolette his 200th NHL victory.
Jason Williams also scored twice for the Hurricanes, who beat Florida for the ninth time in 10 meetings. Ray Whitney had two assists, extending his point streak to 10 games.
Jozef Stumpel, Stephen Weiss and David Booth scored for the Panthers, who have lost three in a row.
Cam Ward stopped 27 shots for Carolina, and Vokoun finished with 32 saves.
Sharks 5, Coyotes 0
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) – Joe Thornton and Devin Setoguchi scored two goals each and San Jose beat Phoenix for the second time in three nights.
Mike Grier also scored and Evgeni Nabokov stopped 25 shots for his second shutout as the Sharks earned consecutive home wins for the first time this season.
Mikael Tellqvist stopped an early penalty shot but had trouble the rest of way. His three-game winning streak was snapped and Phoenix went on its first road losing skid this season.
The Coyotes will host the Sharks on Thursday.
